Are they really that different?

I'd say they're pretty similar :)

They were actually doing all of those poses at the exact same time. I tried to get pictures but everytime I stood up to walk away so I could get them both in the shot, Mike would follow me. That's the difference between the Mutt and the Model . . . the Model knows how to follow direction from the photographer, the Mutt just wants to be with the photographer

Awwwww, I love the look on Mike's face in the last one.
