What is Yahoooo? (video)

Weight pull, Protection, Agility, Flyball... you name it!

Postby Chris Fraize » February 8th, 2006, 7:46 pm

Every Wednesday we do what we call Yahoo training. This isn’t how we train all the time. The basics of obedience and bitework are taught a little at a time and the dogs are gradually exposed to more and more environmental and decoy pressures. When the dogs have reached a certain level of training, we start them in Yahoo. This Yahoo training is essentially environmental proofing.

We started yahoo training years ago to proof our dogs and it has evolved into a regular Wednesday morning event. We have loads of fun training this way and we always keep things positive and fun. I have traveled to (and been in) other clubs and have seen training get stale and tedious. Yahoo is our way of keeping training fresh and enjoyable while we throw every environmental stressor we can think of at our dogs.

Yahoo training always seems to keep raising the bar for the club members and the quality of our dogs. If someone sent their dog across a lake for a bite on a decoy in a canoe this week, rest assured the other club members will be trying it next week usually with a new twist. This kind of friendly, “Anything your dog can do, mine can do better!” mentality keeps both dog and handler challenged.

We do Yahoo training in obedience bitework and agility with many different breeds. As the training director it is my job to make sure everyone has fun while reaching his or her training goals. We always try to stay safe and make sure the dogs end with success!

Here is this weeks YAHOOOOO video of Rumble.

Do you YAHOOOOOOOO?

ok, how did you get access to an empty fun house?

We've done some stuff like this, but it's not a regular occurance. It looks like a lot of fun though!

In November Connor went up the front of a van and up a tree (both firsts for him) during training.

Here is the entire weekend of training pictures. (no laughing at my bite suit!)

My short sleeve suit... it's one of a kind!!!!

LOL

Actually, I might have a line on a used EuroChien suit. Here's hoping!

Are you planning to come to NY for any events anytime soon?

Hello Michelle,

I would LOVE to come to events your club hosts. I noticed that your PSA seminar is the same weekend as our FROSTBITE personal protection tournament. I hope your event is a success!

I love to compete! However, I don’t compete at the events I host here in Maine because I believe it is a conflict of interest. Please keep me in the loop for any and all of your events. I am sure we could scratch up a few entries for your events! As I said before, you and your club are always welcome here anytime!

Safe training,
Chris Fraize

Rumble looks like he has a lot in common with my dog Connor. Drive will override anything you can throw at him. Good stuff.

I have to learn to make videos like that. What are you using for software? I've had an idea for a while now with pictures, music and live action but haven't got a clue how to put it all together.

Microsoft movie maker (I think that is what it's called.) I came with the computer. Do a search on your computer Im almost sure it will be there.

We had to purchace a converter program online. About $50.00.

Hope this helps!

Those are the coolest videos. I would LOVE to get into something like that. Do you happen to know of a good trainer on this coast line?

Ok, I can totally seen Oscar doing that stuff.
We have most of the rough training to begin it, and he's bullet proof.
How much does it cost?
Where do I find a Club? (I'm in Victoria BC Canada)
Are there places that take "beginners"?
oh, my dog is dog reactive, will that limit us? (I assume if they let us in to train it would actually help desensitize his reactivity)
