Ok I have a new pup and he does not understand the concept of not using the potty in his crate. We go on long walks, he goes to the potty and all the normal stuff you do to crate train and all the early morning pee breaks whateva there is to do I feel I am doing it but no success. I have had him almost a week and he has only made it one nit with no accidents. His crate is jus big for him to stand up, turn around and lay down. So help me if I am missing anything here or will he get the concept?

thanks

Tony

Well, his crate sounds like it's small enough, so that's good. How often are you taking him out? Is he on a regular food/water schedule? I'm assuming 2-3 times a day for feedings. How old is he? AND WHERE ARE THE PICTURES??? This thread is useless w/o pics.

He is on a regular feeding schedule and water is taken away about an hour before we go to bed. He has been going out about every hour give or take. Then when he gets up and usually after playing.

Here is his album on picturetrail.

How old is he?

If he's not making it through the night without accidents then you need to set your alarm clock and take him out half way through the night.

You are taking him out every hour, and then you expect him to make it 8 hours? It's not going to be easy for him to do.

You need to get him out of this habit. Cleo had no problem with going in her crate and did for the entire year I had her. It was NOT fun.

i really do not try to take him out every hour. I try to do it after playing, eating, drinking, sleeping and before we go to bed. He is 12 weeks.

that's pretty young for overnight.

I'd take him out once a night.

I git some pretty good info and we tried it last nite and it worked out great. I took him for a walk and a play session. We walked and played for about an hour to an hour and a half. Fed him prior to going out for session. When he used the potty outside we had a lil party and praised him alot. Well we got in and he played with his toys for about another hour and he then took a lil nap. I got him up and took him out and he used the potty and then put him in his crate for the nite. 5:30 this ornong we went out and he pottied. No mess in the crate and he slept all nte. Oh one more thing I took his water away from him about an hour before we went to bed.
