Zoe ~ I am so sorry to read this about Marz. I think what you are doing for her is fantastic and you just never know. I am thinking positive thoughts for her and you.

Thanx guys. Although both vets seem to think it's pointless, we have an appointment with a specialist on Tuesday. There is no oncologist around here but this is the place they send people. It will be an internal medicine doctor. We had a CF clinic appoinment for Raven yesterday and the physiotherapist said her dog had cancer but the closest oncologist was in Seattle. Maybe it is pointless but I have to explore all possibilities I can or my heart will never rest. I'm just not ready to come to terms with there being no hope. :cry:

The best way to look at really is : do what you can for her and make it about quality of life, focus on making her time here a blast

Boy, this just seems like a bad time for so many animals and people. I don't blame you for seeking other opinions. You want to have enough information to make an informed choice.

I hope she can improve...I know of a few dogs who extended their lives (and improved their health) by switching to raw (I don't recall what you feed?) when they were diagnosed with cancer and/or other medical issues.

Well, they always eat a variety good quality natural kibble but my main reason for switching to raw was to eliminate the grains completely which supposidley feed the cancer cells along with certain veggies that convert to simple sugars so I'm hoping at least maybe it will slow it down.

i'm so sorry cancer is so hard

my last dog died from cancer and so did my very first dog. its so hard i'm so scared to hear that c word again

Well, we went to the specialist today. They xrayed her lungs and they are all clear but when they did those xrays they caught a bit of her shoulder and they said there was "something" going on there so they did xrays of her shoulder as well. They are going to go over them and call us on Thursday as we had been there for hours, they were essentially closed and they still had a mother load of people to deal with. Basically, if we decided to go with amputation and chemo, that would be her remaining leg. :sad2:

She said although she couldn't feel anything with her hands, the cancer could have spread there or even started there. Strangely enough, when she started getting limpy that is where I thought she was sore until the swelling on her leg showed up. :cry:

The vet called today. She said what she thought was right. That she has cancer in her shoulder and that is where it more than likely started and then travelled to her leg which may explain how it showed up so fast and large in her leg which wasn't really typical of osteosarcoma. I don't even know if what she has is osteosarcoma now or some other type of bone cancer. I feel so stupid because I thought she was just having issues with her arthritis and was massaging her shoulder because before the lump on her leg showed up, it was her shoulder that I thought was bugging her. For all my paranoia about cancer after Venus going through it, I was always checking them for lumps and poor Marz's shoulder is being eaten away. I'm so upset I can't bear to find out if there was something I could have done if I had clued into what was going on sooner. She said the only thing that can be done now is palliative care which is either pain meds or radiation for pain which the closest place they offer that is at Washington State University.
