Well, I took her to my regualar vet, he xrayed her leg, gave me pain killers for her and said when she gets bad, put her down. Obviously I asked about other options. He felt she was too old, big and arthritic to handle amputation of her leg, which is what they usually do and then chemo for the lungs but it really, generally only buys them time. He had mentioned the bone replacement surgery but said it's not commonly preformed, has many risks depending on the procedure and he wouldn't put an old dog through it, even if there was someone around who could preform it. Basically make her as comfortable as possible until I have to let her go.
Sooooooo......... I did understand what he was saying and I didn't disagree but I felt I had to try and do anything I could to help her so I started by switching her to raw to eliminate any grains that basically feed the cancer cells and selecting veggies that are best for her situation. I took her to a holistic/traditional vet yesterday, got some bloodwork done, got her an herbal tonic called Hoxsey, fish oil with added vitamin A, vitamin C and E, changed her pain med to one that has been known to cut off the blood supply to kidney cancer and actually help shrink tumours. She said she wasn't sure if it would help in this case but if you have to choose a med, why not choose one that may have a positive side effect. She said I could xray her lungs but even if nothing was visable, doesn't mean there isn't anything there starting as you can only see them once they are a bit bigger. She's isn't coughing or anything and minus a limp and a lump {looks more like her leg is swelled} she's doin' ok. She's got another herbal tonic on the way as well sooooooo....... hopefully, maybe this will slow things down. At least it's better than not doing anything. I liked the way she looked at as well. She said it wasn't about taking her home to die, it was about living well with cancer. If anything, at least Marz is lovin' all the extra attention, getting to go to the vets {which she LOVES} and she's totally diggin' the raw. In a moment when I wasn't ballin' and loosing my mind, we could actually joke and say Marz probably thinks cancer is the best thing that ever happened to her. She's such a stoic girl. She wouldn't complain if her leg was falling off if you were giving her attention.
