Lab Mix? I think not!

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Postby huskyhouse » February 2nd, 2006, 1:17 am

So I have new tenants in my upstairs apartment, a really nice young couple with a one year old pup. So when I asked him what kind of dog they had, he told me they got it form a rescue here in NJ (I know the rescue, it's actually a collie rescue) and it was a lab shepherd mix.

Well, when I met Diesel, he sure as hell ain't no lab mix :funny: , he's a bully! And a real love with a great temperament.

Now, for the million dollar question, just what is he, AmStaff or Pittie? I pegged him for mostly Amstaff (he's little, maybe 40 lbs, if that) but since this isn't my breed I'll ask where the experts hang out  . Here's the link to his album.

Honestly it kills me when rescues do this. I wish they would label dogs what they are. My neighbor was told she had a boxer shep mix LOL NOT even close; she also had an apbt

My guess is APBT mix but who knows for sure? Very cute fella 8)

Also the only difference between an Amstaff and an APBT is is the registry and a slightly different standard and even then not always since AKC dogs can be registered with both UKC and ADBA. even those in shape so called game looking dogs are in AKC as well. It depends on the line and breeding what they loook like and really not the registry IMO and experience.

He looks like he's got a bit of a waddle on his neck there, which is why I'd think that there is shepherd somewhere back in his lines, but he mostly looks . . . APBT maybe?

Did the owners have an inkling he could be a pitty? Or did they really have no idea?

I would highly doubt he's AKC AmStaff. I'd label him as a Pit Bull/possibly Dobe mix. He certainly doesn't look purebred to me.

Looks like a pretty pit mix to me!

Looks more like a pit than some I've seen labeled as one.
Just my opinion.

The musculature around his jaw area and ear set are Pitbull. The earset ESPECIALLY...wow. He's got gorgeous coloration. Yeah the shelters shouldn't fudge on that mix. They could cause alot of heartbreak down the road...

Although he seems to have some "pit bull" characteristics, I wouldn't say he's purebred at all. He looks like mixed breed to me. Remember, no one can tell if a dog is a pure bred "pit bull" as so many breeds make up the "pit bull" genre & plus there is such a variance in structure due to bad breeding & breeding for working ability vs. show.

I would just label him as one of the cutest little mixes I've ever seen. :)
