Beef Bones

We bought Charlie and Jaida these huge beef bones today.






Does anyone give these to their dogs? How long do they last? How should I store them when they arent being chewed?

Halo: less than 24 hours
Wally: more than 24 years

I've never given one to Mike so I have no clue. But he seems to eat his marrow bones only slightly more vigorously than Wally, so I don't hold high hopes for him being able to actually finish one.


The ones I gave to my boys were a bit smaller. I usually don't bother getting anything that big since Wally only chews on marrow bones for a total of 10 minutes. I guess you tire out easily when you're already missing 17 teeth!

Sis, I meant how long are they good for before they spoil? I put them in garbage bags and back in the fridge when they were done with them.

They spent about 1-2 hours on them in the yard and didnt put much of a dent in them, so I think they'll definately outlast their spoil date.

Personally I don't keep them more than a few days, refrigerated. Not worth risking it with The Big D threatening from spoiled meat. Yuck!

Those will probably rot before the dogs make much of a dent. Next time, have the butcher cut them into 5 or 6 inch lengths. Part of the good stuff is the actual marrow in the bone, which the dogs will not be able to get to if the bones are not cut.

You know, right before I read this reply I asked my boyfriend, "Can you cut bones that big on your own? Wouldn't the bones smell bad? Do bones smell bad?"

Not to be nosey, but I want to get Ella some bones like that (but I'll cut them up), how much did those two GIGANTIC things cost you?

Great price!! Big bones. I have bones that are smaller and each time after they get done chewing them I put them in the freezer. I got that advice from Michelle. Cutting them with the hand saw should be fun. Good luck!!

I think we're done with the bones!

Today, both dogs have had the runs and an accident in the house. Nothing in their diet has changed to trigger this, except for the bones.
