I have always loved bulld ogs ever since I was a kid. We had neighbors (college kids) that had two black pits, and my dad warned me to never go over to that side of the street or to go up to the fence... being a dog lover and also being a (unsupervised) child, I went straight to the fence and ended up meeting two of the coolest dogs ever. The college kids let me into the back yard to play tug with the dogs and watch them tug on a rope tied to a tree (springpole style). These two dogs were so bulldog-ish, wiggle til they fall over, and had amazing drive. I used to love to watch the guys put balls in the trees and let the dogs climb the trees to get the balls. I spent every afternoon there for a few years, until I guess the kids graduated and moved on. My dad never knew.
I remeber going to dog shows and stuff as a kid and i was totally in love with the mastiffs, bull dogs, bull terriers, bostons, etc. I guess I have always been drawn to this "type" of dog
My step mom was studying to be a vet and thought that pit bulls and dobies were vicious, and that purebred dogs were always less healthy or smart that mixes. She made it through almost 4 years of vet school with the same myths still firm in mind. My mother also thought that they were dangerous, though she was fine with our malamute/akita mix and wanted a PB rottie
Great Danes are another interest of mine, breed-wise... I also like terriers a LOT! I like reptiles, too... and bugs!
my two dogs are between 9 and 12. One is a rotti mix (m, neutered) and the other is mostly Pit(F, spayed) (could be part EB; looks very EB in many ways). They are both active and my pitty seems like she is barely a day over 6 months energywise!!! Pretty good health, we have been very lucky! They were both homeless dogs that I got when they were young and have been with us and very loved. I had a purebred pit bull for many years too before she passed away. I have volunteered for shelters and try to donate when I can, and help owners that want to give up, have found, etc Pit Bulls... I donate my help to a local dog trainer that is very wise about the breed, and take some of her suggestions and offer them for free to people in need that would not pay to consult a dog trainer. YOu know, basic stuff you can find online but people just dont think to look for it sometimes or do better with more focused suggestions (crate training, dog aggression, etc). Hope to help people not give up or dump dogs when things are tought.
I am not anti breeding, just pro responsibility. Sadly I do not see a lot of that (at least round here) with the Pit Bulls. I am pro rescue, but find them to be jaded, overly opinionated, and sometimes sketchy people... but then there are those that are the most amazing people in the world. People aside it is what they are doing for the pets that matters!
we have two rescued ferrets, too... both off Craigslist, both EXPENSIVE vet needs. We love them though and are happy to have them in the fam! Our pit wants to eat them, though, so they get their own room with a door that shuts tightly that the dogs cant go into.
I am not online a liot, but like to chime in when I am.
I like good pizza?
