Oh my Karumba is gorgeous!

Do you and Sonny do endurance often? I've always read that mustangs and arabs are the best at it.

Sonny looks like a sweetheart and Karumba is gorgeous! Can you explain endurance to me? I'm an idiot when it comes to horses . . .

Me and Son have done a few endurance rides, and hes really good at it! hes got the stamina without the crazy "arab brain" (dont get me wrong, I love my arabs..but I love my mustangs more)
Me and Son have done three 30 mile rides, the last one we competed in last year my friend and I tied for first!! (!! YAY SON!) We also competed in our first 50 mile ride and came in with strong marks, they were getting better as the ride progressed :D
Unfortunately since Iv started school and we moved to the lowermain land I dont have time or the place to train right now :( so this year has been a year off I guess.

Endurance riding is races of different milage ranging from 25 milers up to 100 milers in a day, or 3 days in a row. There are vet checks at different points in the ride and you MUST pass your vet check where you ride in, untack your horse and the vet goes over your mount and gives you marks for lots of different things like pulse, gut sounds, attitude etc.. you get a 'hold' in which time you can feed and water your horse again before continueing on, the first horse over the finish line that has an acceptable heart rate wins, as long as it passes the last vet check after the ride.

The general rule is that the horse must be "fit to continue"

the trick is careful conditioning b/c you cant just run your horse into the ground, you wont pass your vetting if you do. so really its knowing how to condition and pace your horse! its a hella amout of fun though! :D:D i LOVE it!
