Help! My friend is feeding Beneful...

I would suggest Merrick over Wellness. Wellness changed its ingredients and alot of dogs arent doing that great on it. Its still MUCH better than supermarket food, though.

Glad that you are helping your friend out with trying to improving her dogs health !!

Some very good kibbles have been mentioned here, I use to feed Canidae before I switched to RAW. I do still keep kibble around, Innova Evo and Solid Gold Barking at the Moon. They get a kibble supper a couple times a week. They LOVE the Barking at the Moon !!!

Ingredients:
Turkey, Salmon, Turkey Meal, Potatoes, Salmon Meal, Eggs, Olive Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Blueberries, Tomato Pumice, Broccoli, Carrots, L-Lysine, L-Carnitine, Dried Chicory Root, Carotene, Choline Chloride, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Marigold Extract, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Potassium Iodide, Thiamine Mononitrate, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, Calcium, Panthothenate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin, Vitamin D Supplement, Folic Acid.

Just a couple of other suggestions that I have had great results with.

Thanks! This is her first puppy so I think she is a little clueless. Thanks for the tip on the Wellness Magnolia. I didn't even know Merrick had puppy chow until today when the lady gave me a sample. It looks pretty good. Yep, either of these would be a huge improvement over the Beneful.

**UPDATE**

The doxie pup is now being fostered with a rescue in CT and it looks like she is going to try the Merrick puppy for the pug!

I feel like something has been accomplished!! :clap:

He still won't eat this food, unless he is super hungry.
I tried to keep him on a schedule, once in the morning and then once after work.
But he seems to want to eat really late at night.

What kind of food is it?

Dont let him get away with being picky. Set the food down. If he doesnt eat it in 20 minutes, pick it up and try again the next day. He will quickly get the point and he wont starve himself. Dont spoil him by hand feeding it to him. It doesnt help anything.

I had a foster who wouldnt touch raw meat with a ten foot pole. Even if I tried cooking it for a few seconds or putting some kind of "gravy" on it. After a week of hardly eating, she finally got the point. Once she got used to it, she LOVED raw!

I am feeding him IAMS. Yeah, I actually pretended like I was eating his food out of the bowl and then he started nudging me with his snout and started eating the food.

so he did good today. But the other day he didn't eat all day, and then he ate at about 10 at night. I usually don't leave his food in the bowl, but I didn't want him to go the whole day without eating.
I will do the 20 minute trick and see if that works.

aww thanks, I know I love that little guy!
I constantly kiss his little face!!

He probably hates that I kiss him and hug him so much.
I just can't help it.

He has been eating for the past 2 days now. I think he's getting the hint.
He ate all his food last night and then this morning.

But I'm still going to switch his food.

sarahdee- you should add the new food gradually to his old food so that he doesnt get the runs from a total switchover.. the merrick might be too rich for him,i would try the canidae first

I would give the Merrick a shot.

Yes, a slow transition would be a good idea, but I wouldnt make a huge deal about it. I've never done a slow switchover with my dogs.

He is so cute and loveable.

He has not been biting or hurting me, so I think he is okay with getting a few kisses.
So if this is submissive, then when he licks my face he is submitting to me?
