the runs and the heat

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Dreyfus and Diamond both have the runs today. It was hot and humid yesterdays. Do you think it's the heat?

I did buy them a new bag of food yesterday. That might be it too.

I'd say it could be a combination of the two. Make sure they're hydrated.

Was the new bag a new kind of food or just a new bag?

Charlie had a little bit of the runs last night too. We were outside for most of the day due to a power outage, but I started to think it might be the heat too. (we didnt start him on the new food until after the runs had started)

Damn NNY weather.. one day its freezing, the next it's 90+ degree's.

I'd say most likely it had to do with the heat. I had a couple of loose stool pups in the kennel yesterday because of the heat. Just make sure they stay uber-hydrated today.

Could be the heat but none of mine have gotten the runs lately & it is hot as hell here. Of course I am only letting them out for a few minutes because my lug heads get over heated QUICK. They run out to pee & poop & they are hitting the door wanting back in. Can't say that I blame them, it's too hot to even walk to my car.

Deb, I'm sure you have AC. Most of us don't up here. It's hot inside too!

I put down a small amount of gatorade next to their water dish. Dreyfus won't touch it and Diamond makes a funny face when she drinks it. lol

do you have any oscillating fans charles? put them around the house and on high speed, and it will cool the house down.

we roasted this past weekend, but no one could complain - Megan was in a bite suit for a majority of both days. I'm a big baby, no bite suitage for me. I'm working on a cooling system for under bite suits, I'm hopeing it's done for the DSO so Megan can test it out for me

I hate heat, but I only do AC for the absolute hottest days of the year. I usually run it for 6 or 7 days tops. and only in my bedroom.

We have AC, too.

We also have dogs with some loose poop....., gotta love summer! Oh, well, at least we don't have to shovel humidity!

to get them to drink more, try putting some milk in their water. Chicken broth works as well, but watch the amount of sodium.

I would do pedialyte....gatorade has too much sugar in it....

Milk could give them the runs too. There's low sodium chicken broth or you can boil a chicken and use the stock, if you didn't add salt, you're fine :)
I too think Gatorade would be unbalanced (electrolyte-wise) for them.
