It's from eastern Europe in the 20's, so you may be right since it would be pre "Destroy the breed for the show ring"

The pug nose doesn't look right for a Staffy.

Definitely not a Stafford. This webpage has a few examples of old time Stafford photos...

Beware there are some very unpleasant photos as well!

Yes, the dog in the photo looks more like a black pug.

Interesting Staffy site, some good pics of the early dogs. Thanks for posting it.

To me, the staff is smaller than a pit.

definitely Not a staffy,I'm guessing from the pic that's 1900's or so and the dog could be anyone of several breeds that dont exist anymore. However I say "puggish" aswell, not a very good example by todays standard but has many of the pug's attributes. Check out Mollosorworld.com lots of extinct breeds of the mastif, bulldog types.

The dog in which the puggle breed standard was written? :| :lol3: Michelleeeee! How could you think Stafford? Staffords were the original pit dogs. :lol3:

I was just very hopeful... now that I have been looking at your dog and Sarah's recently it is galreingly obvious that that dog is definately anything but.

My living room is decorated with antique pictures of people with pits and other bullys...
