I am doing marker training. what is the difference? I've met more than my share of "clicker nazis", I've never met someone who does "marker trainig' who is nearly that rabid.

Yes, it's semanitcs... but they are important semantics!!!

Hehehehe! Ok!

Oh cool Im going to start this too. Since Rocky will probably do agility for fun this summer. Also he is learning some tricks and I want to teach him to close the screen door behind him. So I started by just using my hand as a marker now am using a coffe can lid and soon will start a pole. I also use a clicker but since it was not how I started training and Rocky is super smart I sometimes I only need a click one time and he knows that means he did what I wanted then I switch to a yes!! This happened because I was so clicker stupid that half the time I screwed up and clicked at the wrong moment. I just never became clicker savvy. But Clicker training and shaping was so much fun for Rocky. Lips I have a great article on shaping you may be interested to read. However my computer crashed so I dont have it saved I need to see if my dad still has the file.

Last night, I put the paint stirrer that I have been using as a touch object across the room and Ruby went nuts running back and forth. She actually picked it up in frusteration at one point. Woo Hoo!

She spent most of the time barking at me from across the room trying to figure out how to get the pez dispenser (me) to work.

So I take it you are having fun with your new training project?

I think your DOGS did much better than you expected! Poor Riggs and Ruby! I think they gave in to the method quicker than you! TALK ABOUT TRAINING PIT BULLS!

How are things going? Be honest or I will ask Demo!
Ready for more homework?

Not so bad huh? I think you will like Gary though, please be open enough to check him out. He uses the term "clicker" but he is very tallented and progressive... not militant. Has very good tricks to help with behavioral problems too.

I would like to get together and work on some methods I want to try for weight pulling. I am going to use it with Jamie but I would like to see how it improves dogs who already have a pulling history. Its not physical conditioning... its a training (understanding and skill) conditioning.
I would like to see what kind of improvement you have by the Bull-ympics.
It is a method difficult to execute alone... you need a helper who understands what to do. Maybe if we can get a few people together we can train as a group (hesitate to use the word "club"). Maybe call it a training PARTY! :D

What do you think?

Don't laugh, but I got really irritated with my dogs opening the bathroom door and barging in when I am on the throne.

So I taught them to close the door.

I took a piece of American cheese, broke it into eight pieces and licked one piece, sticking it to the door at nose level.

Then I called Birdie over and showed her the cheese, which she promptly set to licking to get it off the door. As soon as the KA-CLICK from the door latching sounded, I "marked" it with my "aw roight" and fed her another piece of cheese.

Then repeated 3 more times, until I had no cheese.

I only had to do this a few times and they got the picture. CLOSE THE BATHROOM DOOR!

(And before you tell ME to close the bathroom door, Petey can open door knobs, he bites them, puts teeth dents in them and turns his head. Birdie hasn't quite gotten that yet, so she goes and gets Petey to do it for her!)
