I really want to compete

Weight pull, Protection, Agility, Flyball... you name it!

Postby PittieLove » June 22nd, 2006, 12:13 am

I want to compete with Ivan WP, agilty, or something....
UKC, AKC, AADR, ADBA, CKC they all need papers
IWPA when does that come to FL?
and others i cant think off are too rare, and are common in northern states. Agility is popular down here, and im sure Ivan could do it. (he doesnt go for dogs when he was a job IE running next to the bike)
What can i do?? :?

I have often thought of agility for Oscar but worried about the offleash part.

Does any teacher let reactive dogs join? And if so, how do they start working towards being off lead...

Is Ivan fixed? AKC will let you do an ILP for a dog which allows it to compete in it's events...but you need proof that the dog is fixed....

*UKC

-UKC has limited registration options if your pup is purebred and not registered. The dog must be spayed or neutered to get this type of registration paper and also be evaluated.

-UKC also has a type of limited registration for mix breed dogs, while AKC does not.

- Dogs who qualify for limited registration #s are allowed to compete in performance events such as agility and obedience.

*AKC

-AKC both has limited registration options if your pup is purebred and not registered. The dog must be spayed or neutered to get this type of registration paper and also be evaluated.

-Unfortunately AKC does not accept APBTs. The dog would have to be registered as an American Staffordshire Terrier

- Dogs who qualify for limited registration #s are allowed to compete in performance events such as agility and obedience.

*USDAA for agility

- USDAA take all breeds and mixes.

___________________________________________________________

*NADAC- for agility

- USDAA and NADAC take all breeds and mixes.

NADAC is the way I'd go for agility with Ivan. It's very popular so there should be competitions in your area and it's easy to join and get a card for your dog.
UKC is a possibility for agility and obedience but I'd look into whether or not there are any clubs near you. Around here shows are don't occur that frequently though they are gaining popularity and picking up. UKC does have a weight pulling program as well so that's a definate plus.
