Poor Vicki

Has had diarrhea for three days

I thought maybe she just ate something that disagreed with her, so I fasted her a couple days with just vegetable broth and made her a tea with slippery elm and honey. Well, the slippery elm helped her not to poop SO much, but it's still runny...and today I *think* I saw a little blood in it...not sure because the broth had beets in it, so I don't know if that's what is was.

Then, yesterday morning I woke up to a damp spot in my bed...she had peed in her sleep :shock:

She has NEVER done that before, even as a pup!

To top it all off, she started limping last night when I took her and Solomon out for a walk...she kept stopping and licking the underside of her paw, and there's a nice sized cut on it...pretty deep too!

So my little princess is off to the vet...I hope she is not having a flare-up of ghiardia...she contracted it as a pup, and I've read that it never really leaves, the parasites just get down to manageable levels. Keep your fingers crossed for her, she has been so quiet and solemn, I can tell she's not really feeling well.

All her tests came back negative on her fecal. I requested they run a sample for ghiardia and that came back negative as well. Heartworm, negative.

He said just to keep her on the broth and slippery elm for a couple days until her gut has a chance to settle. He also gave me some colostrum, which he said was excellent for diarrhea. I gave her one last night, and within a couple hours, her stool started firming up...today it's looking really good...yay!

I honestly think with her having parvo as a pup, her digestive tract never really recovered from it...she has digestive issues off and on, even with probiotics, but she's never had the runs this long. She's hating not being able to get treats and stuff though, and is being quite the sulky little princess LOL

If you live anywhere near a farm, you could get raw colostrum for her there. It wouldn't do her any harm to give her some regularily and it would probably keep her gut in working order.

That's a really good idea...I can tell it's really helping her too...her breath doesn't have that sick stomach smell like it does when her stomach's upset. I'll have to look around...no shortage of farms around here LOL

Glad she's doing better! It makes you worry when they have the runs for several days and it doesn't go away.

Interesting about the colostrum, I'll have to remember that.
