The staff has been talking about the best use of the edit button for the forum and we would like your input.

Option 1 - editing is allowed for a set amount of time after the post is made

Option 2 - editing is allowed until someone has replied to your post

I say a set amount of time...that way if someone replies correcting a spelling error or whatever, you can go back and fix it...and than maybe whoever the jackass was that corrected you can delete his post, thus keeping threads cleaner.

That's my theory anyway.

Yeah, I don't like not having an edit button, but if I had to choose, I'd rather be given a chance to edit within a certain amount of time instead of turning the whole posting thing into a race.

Why are we not just being given an edit button on all of our posts anyway? Is there a reason for removing it?

It was removed to keep people from posting a "bait", then editing it when the bait worked to appear innocent. that is one reason anyway.

It's back on all of the forums currently, but it's not going to stay that way. The other thing I can do is log all changes so if anyone pulls something I can get the original post back, but I'd rather not have that headache.

After a little while, what's the difference? Once someone has responded the post there isn't any reason to go back and edit it - that's like trying to take back something you have already said. We don't want anyone trying to unring bells here.

If anyone can think of a reason that they would need to edit a post longer than a little while after putting it up, I'm all ears.

Wow.

You know, I go to a lot of forums. My main one being a piercing forum that has poeple from 12 years old to well into their 60's, but the majority of them are between 17 and 27ish, and this is the first forum I've been to (other than a dumb MySpace one) where it was necessary to remove the "Edit" button.

Freaking sad.

Sorry... this one was towards CM~ forgot to quote.

Especially since people generally quote off of what others said once they're arguinng a point.

The only time I edit stuff is to fix spelling or make my wording make more sense. I'm kinda a bit out there, so sometimes what makes sense to me doesn't come across properly, or I'll sort of type it in backwards thought...

but granted, I usually fix it within 5-10 minutes or so...

Just sad that that is what it comes to.

It's already been abused here, and this is the calmest forum I've ever been on.

Again, what need would anyone have to edit a post that has been up for a day?

I think so, particularly given the varied opinions . . . and you guys aren't banning people wildly for having varied opinions . . .

Oh, if you would only drink the Kool Aid, "varied opinions" wouldn't even be an issue. :shake:

I voted after a post is made. The only time when I edit is if I have made lots of typos, or misread something and realize that what I have typed is not even related...
