Snickers :-(

Postby msvette2u » June 8th, 2006, 10:52 pm

RIP my sweet little goatie.
I don't know why but he was sick apparently and by the time we got to him he was too far gone. I went to get my meds to put him to sleep but when I came back he was already gone.
I miss him already.
He gave the best snuggles.

No, Michael, the one she had so long. She said "it seems like everything around me is dying". I guess, when you're 11 it might seem that way...

I am not sure. My son found him out there where he's been staying with the other little buckling his own age. He wasn't "right" from the time he was born and almost died at birth. He was bottle fed, and we took him to foster. But he seemed ok lately. He weaned off the bottle about a month ago. He always walked "drunken" and wobbly, despite us giving him B-complex injections and selenium. He didn't run like Oreo does, and his testicles never did descend (too much info, I know but it was just another "odd" thing about him)
He had been bleating "funny", not like usual for the past week or so, but I just thought he was growing up and his bleat sounded different? I just trimmed his hooves three days ago, and snuggled with him for quite a while. He nibbled around out here like he always does. Two days ago I trimmed the other buckling, Oreo. Snickers was walking around like usual.
Yesterday I was so busy getting the cats and Jenny settled in I didn't check on the goats but my son came home from school and found him down, so we started working on him. He was limp at that point, but began having a siezure so I went to town to get the drugs I need to put him to sleep. I brought him with me and when I came back to the car from getting the drugs, I petted his head - and he just kind of stretched out and his eyes started to dilate, and he left me right then.

Gosh, that is just so sad. Almost sounds like something neurological from birth. I had a kitten that had neurological problems, and they just have so many hurdles to make it past when they're growing, I just think very few of them actually make it---and my kitten didn't, either.

Well, that really stinks. I know this probably sounds trite, but just think of how much nicer his short little life was living with you---sounds like you took nice care of him.
