I'm not sure if I ever posted this here or not, but a few weeks ago Tucker had a grape-sized lump under his jaw and it turned out to be a swollen lymp node. We tried treating him with antibiotics and waiting it out, but it didn't improve and instead has gone up and down in size and occasionally we end up feeling sort of a swollen mass of tissue there . . .

So today he's in surgery having the lymph node and some of the surrounding tissue removed. I dropped him off at 7 AM, and I'm picking him up at 6:30 tonight.

We'll hopefully have biopsy results back in a week or so. Please think positive for Tucker puppy . . . I'm praying this lymph tissue is benign (or hyper "reactive" as the vet described it). Chances are, it will be but this is a bit scary and weird. :(

so far so good! vet just called and he's already out of recovery and went for his first post-op walk with a tech.

unfortunately, she said she found another swollen node in there, so it wasn't just one . . . 4 to 7 days till we get the biopsy back. this is going to be a looooong week. :evil:

he is home! i just posted pictures of him at home in the gallery. he has frankenstein stitches and a very lumpy neck!

he's groggy but in good spirits for the most part.

so far, the slide tests done at the vet office show nothing at all except normal lymph cells. of course, they don't have a pathology lab, and they don't perform the biopsy . . . so i have to wait till the lab does that, and that'll take up to a week.

thanks for all the good thoughts, you guys. tucker and i both appreciate it!

now i just have to get through the week without going insane.

I just saw this.... Poor Tucker!

I'm glad he came thru OK and hope you get good news with the results and that it is nothing serious. What would casue swollen lymph nodes? Infection?

Poor pup, give him a big hug from me!

I just got the call, YIPPPEEEEE!

The results are in, and Tucker does not appear to have cancer, thank god! But he does have "histocytosis" in the lymph nodes, which is "common when dogs have allergic reactions." To what, we have no idea.

They also tested positive for conjucntivitis and a staph infection that is resistant to the antibiotics. Which explains why the original dose of antibiotics didn't do anything for him when we first found the swollen nodes. Dunno where, exactly, that infection is originating, but he's had gunky eyes on and off since his surgery, so I'm thinking it's somewhere up in his sinuses or something.

And I'm thinking that his puppy acne might actually turn out to be related to this staph infection as well and the Baytril will probably help him kick that as well.

Poor boy. But thank GOD it's treatable!

He's starting on Baytril tonight and will go for a visit to the vet on 6/19 so she can look him over after 7 days on the drug to see whether it's having any effect or not.

I'm soooooo relieved! A staph infection sucks, but at least we can treat it!
