Hello...I FINALLY figured out how to post a new topic so I'm very proud of myself now.
My name is Alaine and I have very little experience with any Pit Bull breeds. I adopted a lab/pit mix last week from a rescue about an hour South of here and I'm having a good time getting to know this guy. He is about 10-1/2 months old, neutered and has the big webbed feet of a lab. My neighbor took one look at him and asked if he was a pit bull and when I told her he had some Pit in him she looked very nervous and told me that she's afraid of pit bulls and she hopes he doesn't "turn mean" and hurt my kids. I assured her that I did my research and that Pit Bull Terriers are actually very nice dogs and rarely aggressive toward people. I don't know that she is convinced but hopefully she will get to know him and the "myth" of the vicious pit bulls won't spread through her anymore. I have to admit that until I did my research while looking for a dog to rescue, I was also afraid of pit bulls. I thought it was a given that they were unpredictable and vicious. Spending time with Stitch has convinced me otherwise. He is the most happy dog and is so gentle with my kids.
Speaking of which, I also have 3 human kids ages 3, 5 and 11. We have two cats and a fish as well. So far the only "problem" we are running into with Stitch is his love for stuffed animals and the kids toys. I have found lots of little noseless animals around already (thankfully he doesn't actually EAT the noses) He is becoming more of a chewer now that he's settled in so I will have to run to get some good chewy things for him.
I am looking forward to getting to know you all. I know he's not a "real" pit bull but I also know that I do have to be extra careful with him because I don't want anyone blaming the Pit part of him for anything that may happen.
I'll try to put a picture here....ok...maybe not...I don't know how.
