Exiting a treadmill safely?

I have an electric (human) treadmill my dogs use very nicely and have no problem getting on (from the rear or occasionally from the side) and don't need walls or a leash to use it.
However getting off seems to be a little clumsy. It doesn't adjust to slow down completely to a stop (about 2 mph) and just turning it off is much too abrupt. Jumping off the side works, as does them slowing down and riding the belt back to the floor. But both seem clumsy.
Any suggestions?

I was wondering if there was a post on this I missed? Or if anyone had any recommendations?

I just slow mine down to a stop. I trained Vicki to exit off the rear with treats.

This treadmill only slows down to 1.8 - 2 mph. It does not slow down to a stop. Turning it off from there is very abrupt for the dogs. But, exiting it while moving is very awkward too.
I dont want them to hurt themselves and I wanted to know if there is a better way someone has figured out.

Does it have a solid front or an open front? Perhaps try to slow it down to the slowest possible and then get the pupper to run fast off of the front.

Then again I've never used a treadmill . . . just an outsider's opinion.

Just wanted to let you know James has learned a beautiful dismount off of the front of the treadmill! :clap:

Libby prefers to hop off the side or stop and ride the belt off the back.

I feel they have found the most comfortable and coordinated exit.
Thanks for the help, I wasnt worried about Libby so much, but I thought James might hurt himself. Going off the front DEFINITELY works best for him.
