Beef Liver

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby luvmyangels » May 25th, 2006, 12:13 pm

We have been feeding Raw for 3 weeks and two days. Last night the dogs were fed Beef Liver for the 1st time. I was at work so my husband got stuck cutting it up and he said he almost puked from the smell. Well early this morning Knuckles pee'd and had diarrhea in the crate. Thank goodness it was in the crate. So I asked my husband how much he gave them and he may have given them too much for their first feeding. But no one else had any problems. We even made sure to give everyone acidophilus. I guess you live and you learn.

Have a great day!! :)

Even though raw is raw, I still take caution when introducing new raw....I give a little bit, and mix it with what they are used to getting

Awww....MaryAnn...you live and you learn....how do you think I learned to introduce it slowly? after a morning/day/night of pee/diarrhea in the crate...well, I lived...and DEFINITELY learned!!!!!

Some dogs can handle it better than others....

Don't fret. I learned the hard way too. Now I give it in addition to what ever other meat they are getting. I use kidney more that liver, mine have not had a problem with kidney. But the smell will knock you down.

I am glad I wasn't the one that had to cut up the liver last night. My husband was still nauseous from the smell when I got home from work last night. He is not one to get ill from much of anything.

Liver is one of the worst smelling foods....

When I was younger my mother always wanted me to eat liver and onions. GAG GAG GAG!! Thank goodness for my grandmother because when she would cook it she would throw a hamburger in and cook it with the liver so my mother thought I was eating the liver. I guess it had some taste since it was being cooked with it but was not half as bad as eating the real stuff.

I decided since Knuckles got so ill that I would fast them today. Just to allow it to go through their system and start new tomorrow.

Yeah, I gave Inara her first calf liver, ummm, earlier this week, I think? Horrifying. Just gave her a little, so her tummy handled it well. Her poo was darker, but that's normal after organs. She wolfed it down. And I gave her kidney last night and she wolfed that down too. I think she may be lacking taste buds...

Yeah I bought a liver for Wally and after reading this thread I think I'll give a tiny bit to Halo to introduce it. My problem is that Wally has an iron stomach so feeding him raw has been easy. I change anything with Halo and he's squirting for 24 hours.

Darn dogs . . .

Glad I could help Sis. Let's hope you won't go through what many of us have. Oh well you live and you learn. Ce la vie.
