Natural Products or Recipes??

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby a-bull » May 18th, 2006, 11:36 am

Can people who use natural products or have recipes for natural remedies post their favorites?? (Dog related, of course). :)

I really like to use natural stuff on my critters, (and myself), but I'm not too keen on just pulling info. off the internet from hippies I don't "know". :afro:

for bugs and ticks/mosquitos i use on me and my dogs:

essential oils of lavendar, sage, rosemary, eucalyptus 3 drops of each mixed with a 16 oz spray bottle.. shake, spray and smell good and keep the bugs away.

dogs get a clove of garlic 5 days a week for mosquitos too.

Garlic is also good for fleas and ticks...

Valerian root is a natural calmer (I usually do 1 pill per 50 lbs). It won't knock the dog out, just relaxes them (great for car trips)...

Ginger snaps...good for tummyaches (also good for a dog that gets sick in the car...give it 1/2 hour to 1 hour before getting in car).

Yogurt is a great source of acidophilus (good intestinal bacteria)...also good for yeast levels (in women and in dogs who are prone to yeast ear infections).

Pumkin is a great source of fiber (should make poop hard).

Lavendar is calming.

Tea tree oil for cuts.

Cranberries for urinary tract health.

All these things are good for humans and dogs....

This is great!!

I knew about gingersnaps for people, but not dogs---it works??

Tea tree oil . . . Am I the only one who has had bad experiences with tea tree oil?? I find it aggravates anything I use it on---ears, wounds, etc. What am I doing wrong here??? :|

I'm not sure what you're doing wrong. Tea tree oil is a great astringent...I've used it on open wounds on both my dogs and myself...

Peppermint oil is also really good as an astringent....

Keep in mind that these oils should be kept no more than 3-4 months (true essential oils only really hold that long)

I, too, use essential oils for myself and my pets. But I live in a very rural area and have yet to find a good online source to buy the oils. Any have a favorite??

Try The Body Shop online for your essential oils.

They have been seling essential oils for as long as I have been shopping! :D

Why does the ASPCA say Garlic is bad for dogs? I myself have made cheddar garlic biscuits for my dogs and everyone says garlic is a natural flea repellent.

Also, many Aveda stores will take orders over the phone, and ship to you....

If you call the one at the Christiana Mall, you can order the essential oils, give them your credit card number...they'll ship for free...and because it's Delaware, there's no tax!!!!
