9/11

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Yep, I still become a blubbering mess when it comes to anything regarding 9/11. I expect the next couple days for me are going to be just horrendous. I heard this song on the radio this morning and nearly pulled over because I was crying so hard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtCCvduQmQo
"Remember - every time your dog gets somewhere on a tight leash *a fairy dies and it's all your fault.* Think of the fairies." http://www.positivepetzine.com"

Reading that YOU were crying at the song, made ME start to cry without even hearing it. I don't think I can listen to it.

Sunday I will be at the Setauket FD 9/11 Memorial service. It is where Jimmy volunteers. I don't know how I will get through it, along with the others who are there to remember and mourn. :sad2:

I went last year to their memoiral site on 9/11 and have gone once a week since then. It has become my place to think, de-stress or pray and ask favors from the Angels in my life.

I posted photos before, but this is what it looks like. The two side beams are from Ground Zero. The flag is a metal structure. It was designed by a local Eagle Scout.

They are adding a new section with memorial bricks.

What a lovely memorial - it does look very peaceful.

The Setauket FD has recently been adding a new section, and I just saw it. It is a stone wall with names on it. They were still working getting the area ready, so I only saw it from 10 feet away....I lost it anyway. Photos to follow. If anyone else has photos of memorials, it would be nice to post them here.

This is a very nicely done video about the SAR dogs of 9/11: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D91GQRX3YdY

That memorial is beautiful, Joyce.

So, this evening is Setauket's memorial service. Just found out my son will be in the Honor Guard procession. As many of you know, FDNY, NYPD and First Responders were not invited to NYC's services. Many are going to their hometown's memorials.

Ours starts 7:30 pm. I will be the one wearing sunglasses. :sad2:

That still just simply boils my blood....they didn't mind the responding and losing their lives at the real thing, but it's too crowded for the memorial. Who the heck do they think was a portion of those lives lost?

That is a beautiful memorial, Joyce. I'm shocked about the NYC service not inviting NY's finest. That is truely sad. One good thing though is that local ceremonies probably make it more of a family oriented service, so I guess that could be an upside. Anything that brings families close is a good thing even if it comes out of a tragedy.

I loved that video! Thanks for posting it.

As for the non-invite, I realize all the people who lost loved ones should be invited, but as a firefighter posted on FB:

We think it's an OUTRAGE that FDNY members were asked to please NOT attend the September 11th anniversary memorial that we have been going to for the last 9 years. The mayor states there's not enough room for all the families and everyone. I guess there seemed to be "enough room" for us in 2001...

CNN has a video up where they are interviewing a blind man who made it down from the 77th floor with the help of his guide dog. He says at one point they were passing firemen on the stairwell (of course heading up into the WTC), and one of the firemen paused to pet his dog, and his guide dog licked the fireman. He said that was possibly the last moment of unconditional love that fireman received before the tower collapsed. :(

And on a related note... I know people who don't have pets and don't understand the bond that "dog people" often feel with dogs even when they aren't their own. But this man took just a second to pause and meet that dog, which makes no sense given what was going on around them. But I'm sure it made him feel better, which is really why we have pets in the first place.

Finally had a sunny day to take photos of Setauket FD's 9-11 Memorial. I love it there...so serene. I go every week and thank my Angels for protecting my son. I also ask the 343 FDNY Firefighters, who are now Angels, to protect him and his friends.

I bought a memorial brick and as soon as it is in place I will take a photo of it. These are some of the companies that donated their time, talents or money.

I do, too. Basically, as you know, it is my Mom and Dad. My Dad thought he gave birth to Jimmy. My Mom taught Jimmy how to cook (thank God, huh?).
