Baking soda for upset stomach?

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby TheRedQueen » September 8th, 2011, 1:12 am

I've never heard of this...but I saw it posted on FB, as a remedy for a friend's dog's upset stomach.

give him about a 1/2 cup of water and put about 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in it. And a squirt of like...BBQ sauce. The Baking soda will really help his tummy and the BBQ sauce will make him drink it! My girls fight over it! lol

this seems a bit crazy...yes, no?

From my acid base balance chapter.... I learned that the baking soda is like tums but hard to measure how much is needed. It is to reduce the acid is your system. But if you use too much you could go to akaline. It is a fine balance. It would be hard to know how much to give. That is my two cents.
BTW, I hated that course in school. It was so confusing.

I use it all the time for upset stomach and it works a charm for me! It hink it's quicker than tumms, maybe because it's already dissolved. I was told a story, though, when I was a kid about a guy who used too much and his stomach ruptured, so I always follow the instructions on the box... The side panel of Arm & Hammer has instructions for use as antacid. :|

I would think that there are MUCH more affective products in the antacid dept.

Isn't your refrigerator empty? Since you don't cook and all. :|

Bob uses it all the time. It works for him. Not sure how you would convince a dog to drink it.
