I'm looking for a book or video that teaches how to interpret dog body language. Duke growls (and sounds scarey) when he plays. With the new addition coming into our home in a few weeks, I want to be sure I know how to judge when the play may be escalating into something that should be stopped.

We never had a problem with he and Trouble, because with her disability they never just played. She (or we) would stop him before he got started.

Ooh!!!

My bible: "Canine Body Language" by Brenda Aloff
My DVD bible: "What is my dog saying" by Sarah Kalnajs

Between those two I learned sooooo much. Neither are cheap, but they are both extremely worth it and I'm constantly watching/reading them to keep refreshing myself.

Thanks for the suggestions Liz.

Duke is doing so amazingly well right now. I hope an addition doesn't upset the apple cart. We are very religious about NILF. I do lots of structure things with him - sitting and waiting until he's released before he gets fed. Sitting at the door and waiting until the door his opened before rushing out. A little training session for his before bed treat. Just the little things.

He is learning 'leave it', and is MUCH better behaved outside. He's still not crazy about motorcycles, 4 wheelers, or golf carts, but is doing better. Training me helped - not tensing up and restricting the leash has made a big difference, as had just talking calmly to him when he starts to act like a butthead outside. :|
