Crappy day ahead

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby pitbullmamaliz » July 14th, 2011, 4:15 am

Well, it's 4am and I'm wide awake, nauseous and in tears about the upcoming day already. It's going to be my last day as a Parole Officer. Been here for 7 hears and due to budget cuts I'm being bumped over to one of the prisons. I'm fortunate to even have a job. Several of my friends are getting laid off. But I'm still upset. I enjoyed my job. I have the best boss in the world. It's not perfect, but I'm good at it. I wasn't looking to leave. I decided to take tomorrow off because the thought of making it through 2 more days just killed me. So this afternoon I get to turn in my weapon and all of my gear, including my badge, pack up my desk, and walk out for the last time. Not doing real well right now.

I can imagine how difficult it is, especially with the "handing in of your badge".

I know it is easy for me to say....maybe this will be a great new beginning of something else for you. Change is always scary, but sometimes it becomes the best thing, in hindsight.

Hang in there, Lady Pants!!! :hug3:

Still hoping that this will turn out to be really great for you the way it was for me a year and a half ago, but I know today will be hard. Sending hugs your way today.

:hug3: for you...you're a strong, amazing woman...I'm sure you'll look back on this and think..."this was the change that I needed." Something good WILL come of it, because you'll kick everyone's ass if it goes badly!

Good luck Liz, as others have said this may end up being a good change in the long run. I wish I knew what it was like to really love your job as much you do being a parole officer. What are you going to be doing at the prison?

Thanks for the kind words, all. It was a crappy day. It was a LONG day. There was some laughter interspersed throughout, at least. And my boss and secretary gave me a beautiful charm bracelet.

I actually am optimistic about this change. It's just tough to leave what's familiar.

I'm not entirely sure, to be honest. All I know is that I will be determining what security level prison the inmates need to be sent to. I'll be at one of two reception centers in the state, and every inmate has to pass through those before getting sent to what will become their "parent" institution.

Thanks again.

I'm sorry that today was difficult, but I'm with everyone else - keep your eyes open for every time a door closes a window opens and your window is out there.

Thanks for asking, Joyce!

Things are going SOOOO well. I honestly couldn't be happier (unless it was air conditioned). The corrections officers are all really nice and I'm already learning to suck up to them so they get me things (like a fan for my office). My boss is awesome and is really keeping me challenged and letting me move faster than the others who started with me. I'm really enjoying it. :)

Isn't it funny how WE WERE RIGHT about a new opportunity possibly being a great new adventure??? 8)

I am glad you are fitting in and enjoying it. Well, except for the non-a/c area and of course the people you are keeping in jail.

Diana, the CO's had always been very nice when I'd had to go into the prisons before, but my one ex-co-worker had me so paranoid that they'd be mad at me for bumping their friends out of a job. I let him get to me.

Good luck Liz, and I hope you continue to be happy in your new job :)

Well then I'm glad the CO's were better than expected.
