High Risk Tornado Day- Good thoughts!

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby Tubular Toby » May 24th, 2011, 11:51 am

Today is a high risk day for the plains. Storms are moving in and the conditions are perfect for a tornado outbreak. Good thoughts would be appreciated today that nothing happens! The "high risk" warnings are spot on this spring, all three of them were accurate, so let's hope that they are wrong this fourth time!

My town happens to be in the middle of the extremely high risk area, but I've got a plan already and won't be leaving Toby (and I'm also watching my roommate's dog until she gets off of work).

Stay safe, practice those tornado drills with the dogs, and we'll keep you in our thoughts. :hug3:

Storms haven't hit this far east yet. But we have a mattress ready in the hallway and also bags packed in case we go to a basement on campus. Either way, we should be good! I pray that everyone else in the area has a safe place to go.

ETA: Of course, Toby is going with me! I bought him an emergency muzzle, but we have access to a more private basement where my roommate works.

I am defintely sending plenty of good thoughts your way. After seeing everyone around me go through the last big tornado day, you are defintely in my prayers.
Just a few things to remember.
Make sure you have identification on Toby and yourself. Most people forget about themselves. If you have any medical condition or allergies have them written on a peice of paper that is on your body somewhere.
Have food, water and daily medication in a back pack that is on you at all times.
Sounds stupid but if you have a bike or any kind of helmet. PUT IT ON.
I hope this all goes away very soon.

Thanks for the ideas! Toby had his rabies and id tag on, as well as being microchipped. I had my wallet with me. We ended up going to the basement on campus. It was... interesting. I actually would have put a helmet on if I had one, I heard a story about it saving someone's life and thought, hey, that's a good idea!

Good thoughts sent to the east of me! Stay safe everyone!

Glad you and the Tobe-ster are safe!!
In case everyone else hasn't seen news coverage, we got hit REALLY badly in the western areas of the OKC metro. So far I have heard of 10 confirmed deaths. (Two being toddlers from the same family...so heartbreaking.) Luckily it missed my area by a couple of miles...literally.
Also, a friend of mine lost one of his best friends. She was at her mother's trailer house, and when she walked out the door to go to their shelter, another trailer house was thrown on top of her. :sad2: Ugh. Also, a really heartbreaking story.

I hope everyone else east of us is safe. I know the storm system was making its way across the country.

I was thinking about you all Tuesday as it started plowing through-- we ended up with the spontaneous, don't see 'em on the radar twisters when the storms hit our area. Ended up with one small one a few miles outside of town, and a deadly one several miles on the other side of town.

I often wonder why we live here.
