Dog Painting-Need commentary!

Post your pics and vids here.

Postby brokenlizard2 » May 7th, 2011, 7:05 pm

I'm working on a portrait commission of two Australian shepherds.
Before I start on the second one (a blue merle), I need some artistic critical commentary (my roommate left for the weekend, so I have no one else to review it).

I could really use the help so I can spend another 3 to 4 hours finishing it :P

I like it, but I would have left out the collar - it doesn't really "add" to the picture, and I found it a little distracting.

Besides that, looking good!

Very nice. The perspective of the nose seems a bit off. When you compare it to your reference shot, there is too much white to (our left) of the dog's actual nose, making it appear that we can see that side of the nose when we really can't. I also agree with the collar.

I love the colors you've chosen and the next dog's line work looks great! =)

daaaaanng.
I'm seriously impressed by the ability to do this digitally. I mean, I'm an artist, but my photoshop skills pretty much stop at resizing images so my hat's off to you!! Are you using a drawing tablet?

*Edit*
I creeped through your DA gallery, and now I'm really curious to know what your process is... if I'm not mistaken, you make physical drawings and then scan them in? Share, if of course you don't want to keep your process under wraps... which if that's the case I completely understand.

It's funny, because everyone that posted here is talented in "the arts" in some way (except me) and all of you have SO MUCH talent.
