13th Annual DSO - Descent into Hell - August 20-21, 2011

The info for next year's DSO is up! The theme is "Descent into Hell." Somehow I don't envision sprinklers being involved the next time around! They even added the obedience only category to the website, we're "official" now! Woo Hoo!!

So mark your calendars, you have plenty of time to plan... And train!

Yeah! We're planning on being there again! Hopefully with no sprinklers, we can do better this next time! We like fire much better than water! lol

I'm already planning my theme music - I''m thinking maybe "Devil in Disguise" by Elvis. :giggle:

Inara's never really been around fire...this winter I'll have to go to my parents house and work her around their fireplace, lol .

Our next-door neighbors have a sky-high bonfire almost every night of every weekend during the summer...and the other neighbors like to randomly set crap on fire (yeah, like their ripped-out indoor carpeting). The first neighbors, their bonfire site is right down next to my back corner...so the dogs see/smell it pretty well. It freaked them out at first (and the "scary" monsters standing around)...but now it's all old hat to them.

From Cheryl:
http://members3.boardhost.com/dogsports ... 05752.html
The Dog Sports Open is slowly approaching....

What type of training, scheming, and coaching?

Will you need to do to outwit the field?

I could just tell you, but my lips are sealed...

Nothing that a good dog shouldn't already do...

But come when called, is nothing new!

Will he come when you are here?

Will he come when you are there?

Will he come close enough?

Oh, dear, I might say too much!!

I know what I'm training for the next four months!!!!!

Inara's recall sucks. Guess we're working on that, too! lol

MAN this sounds like fun. Since I'm not going to compete in NJ or NH this year, maybe I can swing it. I guess it depends on if I get a new job beforehand and if we're too tired from our ME trial the weekend before . . .

Ooooh...if there's one thing my dogs can do...it's RECALL! they'll jump through hoops of fire too...as long as there isn't water involved...we're cool. lol

and Sis...if you need to share a room, let us know...we get a cheap room nearby that is dog-friendly. We're willing to share.

Ooooh I'll let you know. And I promise not to fart under the covers ;) And I agree, mine'll rock the recall. Everything else is up in the air though. LOL!

Another from Cheryl...

http://members3.boardhost.com/dogsports ... 27517.html

You have learned well.. but listen

way before the sunlight glistens..

on the field of training, you should make sure

your dog will come to you, without any lure..

and come close, to the spot that you desire..

or surely you might end up in (gulp) fire!!!!

I don't know - but the problem with a recall is the part about leaving your dog to be recalled. Riggs doesn't hold a down, and it's not out of the question for part of the challenge to be having your dog held... which if the person holding is a decoy, I'm sunk!!!

There might be a drop on recall, my guess is that it will be recalls over/under things, or your dog figuring out ways to get back to you. We do that work on the playground - which has led to some spectacular fails lol

I was just wondering if it'd involve a drop on a certain spot...we used to do that at Fidos, the dogs would recall across the room, and had to drop on a specific point. Inara and Xander are good at that...Score's okay, Fig is hopeless.

Restrained recalls would be great...except for Inara...lol. We do these in flyball! Holding the stay will be hard for Fig, but the others can do it...I'm excited

It may be that. There's no way to know... but it's probably a good idea to train it if you can. Well, not you but the rest of us! lol

Well, that's why they decoys wear suits! lmao

I have my ginormous entry fee set aside...I did the same thing last year, set aside money JUST for the entry fee...so I can guarantee my multiple entries...lol

We're so ready for this...working on our whiplash turns, recalls, obstacles, etc. Can't wait!

Don't put it off! There's nothing like this tournament!

It's a TON of fun, and like I've posted many many times before, it's a training trial. Which means, if your dog has trouble with something, they stop the trial and work through the issue with you. If necessary, they will create a new task on the spot so that your dog can successfully complete it.
