Sprung Ribs?

For those of us that show or want to show our dogs.

Okay, this may be a silly question, but exactly are "sprung ribs"? Does anyone have a pic of a dog that these?

Inside me is a thin woman trying to get out. I usually shut the bitch up with a martini.

The term usually seen is "well-sprung". It refers to how the ribs come out from the spine. Well-sprung ribs spring out from the spine nearly level to form a broad back and then arch downward and curve in at the bottom to connect with the breastbone.

I believe most standards call for well-sprung ribs. A Whippet and a Bull-Mastiff have well-sprung ribs; the Bull-Mastiff's ribs are more rounded as they arch out and join with the breasbone; the Whippet's are more oval.

I highly recommend the book, "K-9 Structure and Terminology" by Gilbert and Brown for anyone interested in structure and conformation.
