Dobermans with Cancer?

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby ParisStreetPitCrew » March 11th, 2011, 10:46 pm

Hey guys, does anyone here have a friend, relative, neighbor, or know anyone with a Doberman with cancer?
I'm trying to get the word out and recruit as many blood or saliva samples for the CHCC project. We're seeing some interesting data coming back from initial analysis, but need more samples.

Doberman owners who would like to participate can sign up here: http://www.tgen.org/doberman
(although melanoma and osteosarcoma are listed, we are welcoming samples from all cancer types)

For more info on the CHCC, check out http://www.vai.org/helpingdogs

Other breeds of interest currently: Great Pyrenees, Dogues de Bordeaux, Vizslas, Beagles, Basset Hounds, Greyhounds (also Italian Greyhounds and Whippets), Bernese Mountain Dogs, Cocker Spaniels, Clumber Spaniels, Salukis & Scottish Deerhounds.

While these are the initial target breeds, the CHCC welcomes samples from any dog affected with cancer. Check out the sites or PM me for more info.

I have one dobie dog customer with cancer, I don't know how far it is or what kind it is. I think he is a mix though, dobie and lab.

Maybe those of us who make collars and have access to many many dog owners should post this? I'm willing to put it on my FB page and make a page on my web site for fighting canine cancer.

Would that be tacky?

I have some dog blogger friends with some very very large groups of daily readers. I will go share with them too.

One is a breeder of afghan hounds and Salukis.

Scottie posted this in his blog for you today. He gets a lot of hits.

I am going to ask Christopher from Border Collie Wars to post on his blog too. I found him pictures of Queen Victoria's dogs :)

Thanks much!

And Border Collie Wars? I'm not familiar.... BUT we are looking at adult onset deafness in Border Collies too!! The Program for Canine Health and Performance (my lab which also encompasses the cancer research) researches a number of disorders in addition to cancer. DNA samples from deaf BCs are needed, just the same as from cancer dogs.

Pull up a chair, I think you will really really enjoy his blog.

I'll message or talk with him on chat in the next few days and ask him to do a blog post about the need for DNA samples from deaf border collies.

I have to say that I really really enjoy evening chats on retrieverman's blog. I've learned so much from them. I keep a note pad hand so I can look up stuff that they discuss to learn more or find books mentioned at the library.
