Calling all women! ...Purses?

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby Tubular Toby » January 31st, 2011, 3:46 pm

So I recently became a girl. I've always been a tomboy, but over the last few months I have fixed up my wardrobe a lot, started wearing a little make up, and taking better care of my skin and what not. The next thing I need is a new purse and wallet. I am in the market for a keychain wallet, so I have been looking at Vera Bradley's.

I go to Oklahoma State University, so I want at least an orange keychain wallet. Does anyone know if the Paprika pattern from Vera Bradley's is orange or red? I was also looking at VB bags, but I hear that they are thought of as diaper bags and only mothers have them. Haha, I don't care too much about being in style, but I do want something that's versatile. It seems that these bags would be pretty much suited to a certain outfit. So I am thinking about buying a different brand handbag.

In short, I am shopping online so if you have a favorite versatile handbag or keychain wallet, let me know! I am looking for any recommendations or reviews.

I'm a bit of a tomboy myself, but I do have a few of the Vera Bradley bags, and a wristlet (in Frankly Scarlet) that I can fit my phone, cards, ID and $$ in. I am very picky about the prints, I only like a few of them as the rest are WAY too girly.

Paprika is a reddish-orange, closer to orange.

Good questions Michelle.. Haha

Size, I am versatile. I don't want something HUGE, but I need something that will fit my wallet, phone, small hand lotion bottle, chapstick, checkbook, pen... I also have a 6x7" sketchbook that I would like to have room for, but I can always get a smaller one to carry with me if necessary.

As far as budget, if it's something I LOVE, I could see spending $40 or so on it. But I'd really like to spend closer to $20-30. I am open to buying off of cheaper (reputable) websites as well.

I saw the wristlets and thought they were super cute, but I also really want something to put with my keys. As I am ALWAYS losing my keys. Haha, sounds like the Paprika would be an alright color then, on one website it looked much more maroon-ish but on the Vera Bradley website it looked pretty orange.

Here is the Vera Bradley I am considering, but it is a little bit more than I want to spend. In the event that it is not automatically shown in Paprika, that is the pattern I am considering.

I also really like this ID case in Paprika. May end up going with this one regardless of the purse I get, especially since it is sounding like Paprika leans towards orange over red.

The more I look at various bags online, the more open I am to a slightly larger bag.

I do sort of like that one.

At first I read, "chain wallet" not KEYchain wallet...and thought, "well, I used to have a leather one, and it was functional and all, but not very girly."

lol

Do you have a TJ Maxx in a really crappy neighborhood-- maybe a really non-trendy type neighborhood? I find that you can get the BEST finds at those because often no one shopping there has taste. 8) I got an Armani dress (not AX or Emporio-- straight up Giorgio Armani) for $70-- it was once $800 and had been through about a dozen clearance stickers. I'm a pretty average size. There's no reason it sat round like that except that no one knew what was in front of them.

I'm also a big fan of LeSportSac everything!!

Pretty small town here and there are no TJ Maxx/Marshalls. I could drive to Tulsa or Oklahoma City, but it's going to be awhile before I do. =(

I looked up LeSportSac... I really like them. I will have to see if I can find them discounted anywhere. :)

I'm no help with purses. They terrify me. I actually just got this from Levenger: http://www.levenger.com/PAGETEMPLATES/P ... ageID=7617 Only an eighth of an inch thick! It's all I carry. :)

I've always been a tomboy too. Been trying to branch out a bit recently.
However, I seem to end up living in jeans and tshirts no matter what.

I do like the little keychain wallet you linked to. The only thing I wouldn't like about it is that I like to put my keys in my pocket and I feel like it wouldn't fit with that zip id thing on it.

I do sort of like that one.

That's really cute, I wouldn't like that it wouldn't "stand up" though, and would feel a little silly if I wasn't "dressed up" carrying it.. I'm pretty much no frills myself though. ;)

I usually get mine at TJ Maxx/Marshalls or on super sale at Macy's.

I can't do Vera Bradley because every middle aged snobby bitch of a woman who lives around here has been sporting VB for years. Brings back bad memories of when I showed up at a swanky rich people's club with my septum ring in and people literally made disgusted faces and turned away instead of shaking my hand (because EVERYONE there had a VB bag).

Ahhhhhhh small town rich bitch bullshit. Sorry you got caught up in it, Vera Bradley, but you'll forever be tainted for me. lol

Oh, don't forget about Etsy!! I've seen some bags on there that were just awesome.

This is a tough decision. Haha! Old Navy had this bag and I really liked it in the orange color. It doesn't HAVE to be orange, but the nice thing about orange in this town is that it doesn't matter *what* I am wearing thanks to the University. This town revolves around OSU. Haha

I keep hearing these things about Vera Bradley, but luckily in my town, I don't think it would matter too terribly much. I think a lot of them are too loud for me anyway, I just like the paprika one.

Good idea about Etsy, I will go check it out now.

It's about the same size as the one I have now. In reality, I guess I need something a little bit bigger.

Mostly sorority gals carry them here...

I loooove LeSportSac, though-- and TJ or Macy's is where I see the best sales on them.

I miss Macy's. :( And Century 21. And Loehmann's. And H&M (back in the day when it really was cheap and not too big for its britches; ditto on TopShop).
