Postby Purple » May 11th, 2006, 8:18 pm

For those of you who have been with me from the beginning, you know that this is nothing short of a miracle for Dexter. A year ago, this would have been impossible....just look at this boy now!!! My husband did the class with him!

She also says that he is really really cute!

I love the pictures. He Dexter looks great! . I bet you both had a great time

If you decide to move on to the next class here are some things to help you

Ttry target training so you are not all bent over while doing the obstacles. This way your body language will be more helpful to the dog and the rewards will still be right there when he finishes the obstacles. Does your trainer teach that? If not I have a page written up on Pit Bull University on it or I can paste it up here if you'd like.

You also should try a shorter lead or tab lead for when you have to help him with the obstacles this way there is less of a chance of the lead getting tangled and pulling him off the obstacle.

Thanks again, everyone!
Patch, the woman that teaches just focuses on the dog learning the equipment. I would like to take Hopscotch to the next level, but finding a class around here that is more advanced is nearly impossible. So, any info you can pass on will be appreciated. I am going to have my husband build me the contact pieces, so we will be able to practice at home.

Where in PA are you? There are some great trainers in PA, maybe we can find you one. Or if you are close enough maybe we can get together once and a while. :D

Target training teaches them to stop and start at the right places on the equipment making it much safer in my opion for green dogs who may sometimes be shakey on things or the opposite want to fly off the contacts.

here is the link to my FREE online class it is all geared towards the newbie and is set up in lessons you can do at home and at your own pace. Just pick and choose what you want to do. You just have to set up an account to log in to get started. Please excuse any typos. I stink on a PC and type with 2 fingers LOL
