Need Some Help With A pup

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby chaddawg » January 23rd, 2011, 11:47 pm

It is a pup from the female I got from my uncle which he rescued from a high kill shelter... She was supposed to have already been fixed... But the luck I have she wasn't... So I had an unplanned liter and this female pup that is a little over a month old .. Has this soft lump on her right side bout the size of a tennis ball... It does not cause her any pain what so ever eats like a pig plays around with the rest of the pups... They all look healthy so I am unsure what this could be... Click the link below to see pics... Thanks for any help you can give..

I can't really see where it is but it could be some kind of a hernia or something...

Is there a reason why she isn't going to the vet?

It looks awfully large, I hope it isn't anything severe, wow.

That's really big on a tiny pup. How long has she had it? I can't imagine it just popped up overnight?

And on a side note, I assume your dog is spayed now?

Back off. No need to get snarky. It was a QUESTION.

What did your vet say when you called?

*sigh*

She was supposed to have already been fixed... But the luck I have she wasn't... So I had an unplanned litter

So... are you going to prevent any unplanned litters in the future by spaying her ASAP? Want me to check your area for low-cost clinics? :)

You are the one that said you thought she was spayed, and this was an unplanned litter. I assumed that you would have plans to get her spayed. No need to get defensive, it was a good question.

Please keep us posted with what the vet said, I hope it's not anything bad.

Of course it's your choice, and Liz was just asking a simple question, so calm yourself down. You had an unplanned litter from a dog from a shelter, not exactly what most of us want to hear about considering the state of the breed right now.

Well, there are no unplanned litters, just unplanned breedings. Anyway...

Wow... He thinks it's from the puppies chewing each other, but it's not painful when you touch it? That makes no sense to me.

This.

Did your vet poke the lump and try to see what kind of cells are in there? I mean, is there actually some kind of infection going on or what?

My friend had a dog who was bit by a puppy (just playing) and rather quickly she ended up with a large abcess from the bite. Damn tiny puppy teeth!

His vet also prescribed oral antibiotics and it went down rather quickly. Here's hoping that's all it is!
