Looking for a New Pit Bull Historian

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Postby huskyhouse » July 17th, 2010, 1:17 am

Hi folks, I know I don't post here often (okay, almost never  ), but I thought this would be the best place to post this.

I received a notice today from a colleague in Texas, apparently the man who has been documenting the history of the breed needs a successor, and quickly. If you know of anyone who would be interested, I would appreciate the pass along.

Thanks,
Laura

I am trying very hard to help a man who has terminal cancer. He has been
the National Historian for the American Pit Bull Society for over 35 years.
He has amassed a huge amount of history and 55,000 photos.

His wish is to see his work continue and he has been unable to find anyone
to take his position. I do not know this person; my connection to him is on
another matter; but he lamented this issue.

I have thought about this all day and am deeply saddened that he may die
before I can find someone to take over his work. There are those who wish
to eradicate all pitbulls, hopefully, they will lose their battle; but these
records are valuable to the history of the breed.

His time is short, so I am searching for someone to take his position and
continue his work. If you or someone you know, would be interested in
helping this gentleman, please contact me privately and I will give you his
information and help in anyway possible.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Gayle Justice

I've never heard of the American Pit Bull Society?

Not doubting that they exist but I could not find anything on line about them.

That's a shame he is dying of cancer. 35 years and 55,000 photos is a lifetime worth of work...

How do you contact him?

I would say I am as much of an historian as most anyone on the Pit Bull. I have spent much of the past decade researching their history. I have never heard of this organization though. Most of the history is well documented if you look in the right places. The pictures are however something else. If these are 55,000 pictures of historical Pits I would definitely be interested in helping to archive them. Same with pedigrees. If there is a way to contact this individual I would love to talk to him directly to see what his specific desires are with the information he has and to help make this more easily available to the Pit Bull community as a whole. Please PM me with his details.

I tried to contact this person in the post back in July and they never replied.

I also talked with a friend of mine who has been in the breed for over 35 years and he had never heard of this organization. My friend also has many photos but he says 55,000 is a huge amount.

So who knows as it is sad that a man is dying of cancer and I hope that he did find someone to carry on for him.
