On the upside, the implant looks good so he doesn't need to back in surgery.
But it sucks for him, why can't this just work well? Do you have to keep slightly sedated still, or is he doing ok?
Come on Connor, you can do it! Heal that leg and get back to your crazy self!

Yes, the implant seems to be ok. The third vet - the one from PT - wants us to have him walk more, so that the body is stimulated to heal. If the implant was shifting, there would be a huge callus from the bone trying to make up for the break not being stabilized. However, she is of the opinion that our absolute policy of rest (which we have been following to the letter) is back firing because no weight bearing at all is also not stimulating the body to heal. So, the 5 minutes walks will get the body moving in the right direction for that. We're going to use the treadmill so that we don't have to worry about snow and ice on top of everything else.

Yeah, I seem to have worked the strain out with heat and massage and he's using his leg more. The key seems to be handling him in a manner than encourages him to use it without traumatizing it. Thanks.

Today after I did his heat, I started to do his exercises and decided breaking out some Secret Santa presents would be great therapy for him. We played some low-key tug and then he killed a couple of stuffies. He uses all four legs pretty much equally when he's tugging and also when he's gutting them afterwards. I made sure he was (relatively) calm but he also needs to use it to try to stimulate heeling.

Thanks again Shana and Bob for sending him lots of things to destroy!

And Faye loves his therapy... immediately after we put Connor away, she lays down on the heating pad.

Killed stuffies are good stuffies - or so Trouble says! Glad they are useful with his play therapy.

He's been improving enough for me to give him some daily house time. It seems to be helping as he doesn't limp too much any more. Still no running, jumping or stairs though. Slow going.

It has to be difficult to keep an active dog restricted for such a long time. Is he still doing hydro therapy?

That's been put on hold until we get the next set of X-rays done. The vet doesn't want him doing anything strenuous until the bone shows signs of healing.

I got to see him this past weekend! He seems to feel great - bouncing around, tons of energy, hard to keep calm! lol

He has an appointment for another x-ray tomorrow. Assuming all is well, we're going to go back to doing PT with him.

Thanks everyone!! I thought Demo had posted... the x-rays seemed to be good (I wasn't there) and they are going to send them to the surgeon to review.
