My first sewing project - Coat for Socrates!

Post your pics and vids here.

Postby Brooke » January 12th, 2011, 1:30 pm

I just got a sewing machine and learned how to sew. Aside from slight alterations to things this is the first thing I've ever sewn and I don't know what I was thinking but I didn't use a pattern, I just free handed it, and by some miracle it actually came out decent! It took soooooooo long, but I am really happy with it!

It's fleece and flannel with a zipper along the back and a velcro flap to hide the zipper.

There are still a few little strings and things I need to snip which I didn't even realize until I looked at these pictures  I got a bit ahead of myself.

It looks great. And MAN are you ambitious! LOL! I just got my first sewing machine too and there's no way I'm making dog coats anytime soon. I'm still working on sewing a straight line. LOL!

Cleo had a coat like that. When she came in the house she would run so that you couldn't get it off of her!

Nice work!

Very nice! One of these days I'll get around to making one for Nadia, I am super impressed that you didn't even use a pattern!

While Socrates doesn't look that impressed with your sewing skills, I think it is great! I have the same style for Truman. :)

Haha! I woke him up and made him get out of bed where he was cuddling with dad to make him try it on for me so he was super sleepy. When he was done he took his treat and went back under the covers

I love it! i was just thinking tonight after I looked everywhere and couldn't find ONE dog coat that I need to borrow my grandma's sewing machine and just make some... but honestly mine could never live up to yours! I'm seriously impressed!

Lol we'll see! I am making a couple more tomorrow (one for Socrates and one for the girlfriend). I'd like to get a little more experience before I try making them for other people but I would love to make some and just charge cost (about $6) and shipping just to get some feedback on how they hold up and suggestions. I didn't have any plans to start making them for other people but it's really fun to do and I've already had a couple of requests!

You might surprise yourself. I was saying the whole time "there's no way this is going to be right" then I put it on him and was so surprised!
