I’m beginning to think

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

My little guy isn’t so much a bully mix as a Catahoula mix. Except for those crazy ears, that is.

Opinions on this assumption? Comments from anyone who has, or has dealt with, Catahoulas? Other than “God have mercy on your soul” :D

imho, highly unlikely...they're not very common at all...and ticking doesn't equal merling. I *could* see Cattle dog mix...but not catahoula. Catahoulas are usually more "houndy" looking

This.

Not to mention they are also know as the Catahoula Cur, and as far as I know any kind of Cur, be it Catahoula or Black Mouth can be any range of breeds of dog. I don't think they have a super solid standard, from what I have seen no two dogs look entirely the same. They have a standard somewhat but every supposed catahould I've seen looks different from the next.

So I have to second the:

I agree with Erin. As a former Catahoula owner I'd say I don't see it, but I do see where Cattle Dog could come into play easily.

Do you know how hard it is to describe a dog when you have no clue what it's mixed with? :)

I know catahoulas are usually merle, we've actually got two merle 'houla pups at the shelter right now, but I have seen in my research that they can also be solid colors. It would just be so nice to know something of his make up to help me understand what goes on in his head!

I agree with Cattle Dog too.

There are actually quite a few Catahoulas down here. Probably because hog hunting is so big and those curs make pretty good bay dogs.

Well, honestly...he *could* be cattle dog...but many, many breeds have ticking as part of their coloring...most of the hounds (beagles, bassets, etc), many herding dogs (Aussies, border collies, ACDs as mentioned), setters and spaniels can have ticking (English setters, cocker spaniels, etc), dalmatians are ticked, . So the ticking in and of itself doesn't really mean ACD.

He looks like he hasn't seen a purebred in his ancestry for a while. ;)

My boy Brogan has quite a bit of ticking:

He's been called a setter mix, spaniel mix, border collie mix, aussie mix, and so on. He's definitely got that sporting breed temperament and only weighs 25 pounds. When I see him next to the B&W springer in class, I really see the spaniel in him (sans the long ears) Funny thing is, this is his mom (I see Toller mix):

I'm sure, like Brogan, Fenway is a mix of a mix of a mix. But I saw this guy on a catahoula website and saw a resemblence:
