Newport Aquarium

Anything that doesn't fit into the other three catagories

Postby pitbullmamaliz » January 1st, 2011, 10:26 pm

Went to a large aquarium this past Wednesday when I was visiting family in southern Ohio. My camera had trouble with the lighting (and lack there of!) in the aquarium so some of the pics aren't super clear.

Humpback whale model upon entering - it was very big!
Image

Puffer fish - he never puffed up, but his tail was very pretty and flowing
Image

Mudskippers
Image

Lobster with awesome red and white striped legs
Image

You can't see them in this pic, but this fish had GIGANTIC teeth
Image

Um...fish...of some type...
Image

Crappy pic of an amazing, huge octopus!
Image

Video of the octopus - he was so active! I just wish the lighting had been better:
Image

Spider crabs. HUGE. Reminded me of the aliens from the Alien movies - the ones that attach to your face. Total heebie-jeebies!
Image

Clown fish
Image

Shark of some kind
Image

Lionfish
Image

Image

Viper of some sort
Image

Piranha with cool metallic gold flecks all over
Image

114 lb turtle - gigantic! With a very scary beak!
Image

Can't remember what he was
Image

Neat turtle - amazing camouflage!
Image

Regular turtle
Image

Tail end of Mighty Mike - 14' alligator captured in a pond in Florida. He was huh-uge!
Image

Poison frog
Image

Frog of some sort - I just liked how he was dangling in the water!
Image

Green tree frog - super cute!

2 otters

Not sure what this dude was!

Jellyfish section - gorgeous displays, horrible neon lighting for photos!

I heart jellyfish...:) cool pics!

I've always wanted to see mudskippers IRL...how cool that they have a display of them!

Aquariums are so fun...:)

Cool pics, Liz! The red fish looks like some type of cichlid. I was thinking red terror but I'm not sure. The frog is either an african dwarf or an african clawed. I can't tell if it has webbing on it's front feet or not which is how you would tell the difference.

Cool pics! I've found the trick to taking photos at an aquarium is to put the lens/camera right up against the glass.

I agree that the red/orange fish looks like some sort of cichlid.

I'll have to try your trick Jeanine! I've never heard of that but it's worth a shot. :)

I love aquariums, too. Unfortunately that one is 5 hours from home.

I learned it from a fabulous photographer friend of mine. :)

Awesome pictures! I particularly like the ones of the jellyfish, they're just neat animals in general.

Our Newport Aquarium [AKA Oregon Coast Aquarium at Newport] used to have Keiko [free willy] the whale in it :neener:

I love your pictures!

I wish I could live at the Boston aquarium, and dive in the giant tubular tank every day with Carolina the sea turtle. :)

Looks like a type of knifefish (the specific name eludes me right now..) Looks like a tinfoil barb up above.

The shark of some sort looks like a catfish. Maybe Iridescent Shark (aka catfish) but looks more like a red tailed cat. Could be wrong though!

Awesome pictures! I love aquariums. =)

Thanks, all! I adore aquariums as well. I could have stood in the tube under the shark/ray display all day long, quite happily. :)
