There's a perfume oil company that I love called Violette Market. I got this update on a new collection for charity:

"Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year Violette Market Customers and Friends!

2010 was a wonderful year for Violette Market and I am so excited for 2011 because there are so many exciting perfumes, collaborations, and expansions coming this year!! I would like to take the opportunity to thank each and everyone of you! It's been wonderful getting to know my customers over the years and I sincerely appreciate every note that comes my way, via order or email. In spirit of the charitable aspect of this wonderful winter holiday we're doing something a little different this year. I am very excited to introduce Winter Dogs, a charity perfume collection benefiting PETA www.peta.org. Your purchase of all or any of the following six perfumes, inspired by winter dogs of the North, will allow Violette Market to donate 50% of each bottle to Peta's Angel for Animals program. This program allows Peta to build and then deliver dog houses for dogs that otherwise are given no winter shelter. Violette Market is proud to support this wonderful cause and we invite you to join us this New Years. Original label art by the lovely Elizabeth Raye."

I was super happy until I got to the part about PET@. So I wrote an email back and I tried to be very non judgemental and nice. Here's the email that I sent:

"Congratulations on a wonderful, wonderful year and I hope the coming year bring all that you wish for!

I have been involved in dog rescue for almost eighteen years and specifically Pit Bull rescue for the past ten years. Unfortunately Ingrid Newkirk of PETA is very anti Pit Bull and has stated that she feels all Pit Bulls in shelters should be euthanized to make room for the 'nice dogs' and also supports Breed Specific Legislation. You can search Ingrid Newkirk and Pit Bulls and I'm sure you'll find all sorts of interesting things. As I write this my foster Pit Bull, Kisses, is laying her head in my lap and looking up at me with such love and trust that it warms my heart. I feel so very lucky and honored to be able to do what I do.

I was super excited to support your effort in these charitable endeavors but unfortunately I cannot and I thought you should know why. Perhaps you know all this and have made an informed decision and in that case all the best of luck to you and I hope your benefit is a huge success. Thank you so much for getting involved in something you believe in, I wish more people would do the same thing. :-)

Cheers,
Jeanine"

Well, look at the email that I got back from the wonderful owner, Lori!:

"Hi there!

Thank you for your sweet note. With careful consideration last evening, we decided to change the recipient of our charity. We have selected Adopt A Husky, Inc. at www.adoptahusky.com.

Thank you and have a wonderful winter holiday!

~L"

So please go support this wonderful business:

I'm sure they just hadn't heard some of the bad stuff about PET@ yet. But yay!

WOW! Awesome!!

Now we should all figure out how to purchase something (even something small) and tell them WHY.

Agreed! And GO Jeanine! I'm not sure I would have thought my opinion would make enough of an impact to bother writing, you just blew that notion out of the water.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Good for you for at least saying something! It really shows that at least sometimes people will actually listen.

I'm a pretty regular customer of theirs and the owner and I have traded a couple of emails. I figured since they are a small company and this would be monies out of their pocket they would want to know.

It definitely made me feel better. :-)

How long do you find the smell lasts during the day? And how long does an average bottle last you?
