Mr. McFlutterpants passed away today at home after a long illness (liver disease, unknown cause). We came home from the avian vet this morning and I put him back in his "hospital" cage, where he promptly fluffed up and went to sleep. I checked on him several times throughout the afternoon and he was still on his perch, sleeping. Summer stayed in her cage and kept watch on him the entire day. Around 3pm, Summer let out a series of horrific screeches and peeps. I ran into the bedroom and found Henry taking his last breaths on the floor of his cage. I held him as he passed away.

RIP, little man. I will miss your good morning songs and the way you SO enjoyed playing with bells and the way you pigged out on your favourite foods. Fly free.

I don't think most people understand how much personality these little birds have. Rest in peace, Henry. May you have an endless supply of millet for your mouth, and wind under your wings.

So incredibly true. He was my first bird and I was endlessly fascinated by his behaviours - he taught me so much. He was SO smart and determined and endlessly cheerful.

Thanks, folks.

I'm not exactly sure. He was found in a local grocery a little over two years ago. His band was somewhat illegible and we guessed at maybe 8 months old when he was found -- most of his baby bars on his head were gone so who knows.
