Thanks everyone. We cancelled his PT appointment on Tuesday pending the surgeon's evaluation of the xrays. We'll keep you updated!

We just got back from the xrays. The vet thinks things look good, but wants to have the surgeon evaluate them of course. The only thing she was concerned about was the screw that they had had to move the first time. If that doesn't look good to the surgeon, then they will be going back in later this week.

Oh that sucks. Hopefully the surgeon doesn't find a need for another surgery to move things around.

This is not a pleasant roller coaster to be on, I can only empathize.

On another note, with a really painful dog I'm not surprised they would want to sedate him for a knee x-ray, but put fully under (as in, general anesthesia), that's odd. The general tought is that if he's going to fight positioning due to discomfort (especially for the non-lateral positions), he may hurt himself more and do further damage to the harware. But if he's really good with you, then that's better than sedation of course.

He was very good for me, and we almost pulled it off without any sedation. He just couldn't keep still for quite long enough to get the second shot done. He stretches his leg straight out no problem, but they needed it on his stomach fully extended and he just couldn't stay still for it. They gave him an injection and he was in la la land pretty quick.

Relieved to hear things appear to be okay, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the surgeon gives him a thumbs up.

No idea. The surgeon called today, he still hasn't been in to look at the x-rays. We are not happy.

ugh...

The vet just called (yes, at 11:00). He said the implant looks ok, but that there is almost no sign of heeling. The xrays were taken at almost 5 weeks and there should be a lot of heeling at this point. This is not good.

He was walking 100% of the time until two weeks ago, now it's about every three steps... sometimes. So, more rest, and we're bagging the PT for another three weeks. Then another round of xrays - which I am going to request the surgeon actually be there for. Then we'll try for the PT again.

*sigh* nothing is ever easy.

Just got off the phone with the PT vet.

She said that she thinks he may have strained a muscle between his thigh and his penis that I can't remember the name of. She said that after they hurt it sometimes it starts to spasim and they will get caught in a "cycle" because of it.

We are now going to add in heat with his icing and stretching the leg for the knee, and a different stretch for the groin. We also are putting the treadmill back in the upstairs so he can walk for 5 minutes three times a day.

fun fun fun
