What Lessons Has Your Dog Taught YOU?

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby Marinepits » November 28th, 2010, 11:08 am

From Katy:

You can play rough and tumble just as hard as the boys and still look beautiful.

Being the Queen requires diplomacy to keep the realm running smoothly.

Being the Queen also requires knowing when to open the Can O’ Whoopass, and more importantly, when not to.

Do everything in life with grace.

From Indy:

Never pass up a nap in a warm sunspot.

Never turn down free food, even if it’s spicy and makes your nose run.

Laugh at yourself, especially when you do something idiotic.

Find joy in the smallest moment.

Wake up with a good stretch and a smile every day.

From Short Round:

Play hard and with wild abandon. Injuries will heal.

LEAP! Even if you don’t know where or how you’ll land.

Be fierce, even when you’re tiny.

From Mac:

It’s not always necessary to use force. Sometimes the threat alone is enough.

It's not always necessary to threaten. Being nice will often get you the same results.

Using your ninja skills to scare the hell out of someone can be really funny.

It’s okay to drop your self-control and just be a doofus.

From Tucker:

Keep trying, especially if you’re scared.

New experiences can be fun, especially when shared with a friend.

Learning to stand on your own two/four feet can be scary, but the results are worth it.

Never pass up a chance to do zoomies.
Never make someone a priority in your life when that someone treats you like an option.

I am sure there are more but these are the main ones.

Kinzyl

No matter how bad things are in life, things will always get better.

Patience is a wonderful thing. Especially if you stare at Daddy long enough he will eventually give in.

Some dogs will like you some won't. It is ok.

Don't ever judge a book by it's cover. Try reading the contents before you make your final opinion.

Sammy

Looks are in the eye of the beholder.

Appreciate Mom, she loves you know matter what I do.

Sofie

Always take time to smell the roses, the grass, the light pole, the garbage can, the tree, the bush... etc.

All you have to is make one good attempt at jumping on the bed, the first time you miss your mom will put you up there at bedtime no questions asked.

You need to take each day as it comes.

Just Live.

Seth

It's important to stare everyone in the face even if they don't really like it when you jump on them.

Liver is disgusting, it doesn't matter what the other dogs have said.

Love life.

Be a dork, people will love you for it.

LiLo

It's important to be a good friend.

Liver tastes amazing, so does every other food in this world.

A game of chase is always fun.

Do the best you can with what you've been given.

It took me awhile to formulate this one. It's one of the biggest life lessons I have had to learn.

Lenny

Being angry at someone who was horribe to you is a normal reaction. But there comes a point where, in your heart, you have to forgive them. "Forgiving isn't forgetting. It's letting go and moving on." When you move on, that is when you heal and let others into your life. And then you make sure you don't bite them. :)

Shelby

From Dar:

From Somewhere, (For Reasons You may Not Understand),
you will Be Called to Belong in the Life of Someone that
Desperately Needs You.

The Expectations may not be clearly outlined at first, but Just Showing Up with a pit bull Smile and Wagging Tail Usually Works Best.

Sometimes The Best You Can do is Sit Patiently in the Snow Even Though the Winds are Cold.
Let Tears collect in Your Fur...Sometimes That's the Only Place They Belong.
Long Naps in the Middle of the Day May Be Necessary....(especially when your fur is wet from tears).

Never Pass Up an Opportunity to Leap and Dance Like a Porpoise.
It Seems to Lighten the Mood, No Matter how Heavy the Burden.

Sometimes We Just HAVE to "Get Up"> Know when that moment comes And Make Sure Those Kneeling in the Snow Get UP With You.
Cause WE Don't Leave Family Behind. One goes, we All Go.

Embrace Feeling Adored; Especially When So Well Deserved.
“Hope has two beautiful daughters: their names are Anger and Courage.
Anger that things are the way they are.
Courage to make them the way they ought to be.”----Augustine

Lojac. (RIP)
I'd rather live 3 great years then 10 crappy/ inhumane ones! Its not what you do, it's how you do it! I will always hold my dogs when saying goodbye.

Ryder
Puppies are a crap chute! But love them anyways. You have to learn their strengths and weaknesses not try to make them what they are not.
Even a feral and shy creature can love someone to death! And teach me so much in a lifetime.

Panzer
Again, puppies are a crap chute (give me an adult dog any day!)
And beauty is in the eye of the beholder. She's always beautiful to me!
Don't get a puppy for a reason but help your puppy find a reason! As in they will show you what they were meant to do!

The dog in general: such resilient creatures dOnt hold a grudge but embrace the little bit of happiness they've seen. One creature I've always experienced true unconditional love!

Fenway
See beyond what's there. An "aggressive", black, bully puppy that barks at people walking past his kennel at the shelter is really a sweet, cuddly puppy that hasn't had any guidance up until now and, with some work, has as much (if not more) potential as those lab mix puppies everybody has been fighting over. A rough start in life can be overcome with some love and patience.

Avery
Find the humor in things and never take anything (especially yourself) too seriously - she doesn't run in agility for points, she's just in it for the sheer fun of it. Enjoy every day and take joy in the little things - her rawhide stick dance is particularly entertaining. Laugh a lot - an easy task when Avery is around. And always look forward while going full steam ahead. There's no point in looking back, it's already in the past and can't be changed.

Brogan
Speak gently and remember that everybody is different. Nobody learns in the same manner and you sometimes have to adapt your approach accordingly. Oh, and having a dog that actually checks in with you on a walk is an amazing thing. First dog I've ever had that will slow down and glance up at me periodically. The sibes (and Avery) would just go full steam ahead and I was just a dead weight they were forced to drag.

All Three of Them
It's always a good thing to have a buddy to hang with. And be sure to look innocent when mom walks in whilte you're plotting:

Image

And from the sibes . . .
There are no strangers, just friends we haven't met yet
Greet every day with gusto
Live life to its fullest
Be nice to people with food, they may share
Play hard, Love unconditionally
Fragile objects belong in a museum, not a home
Sometimes its good to be lead dog
