Starting Monday

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby Ino » November 9th, 2010, 7:26 pm

I was afraid to say anything because so many of the jobs I applied and hoped for sent rejection letters, but I got the official job offer today for an animal care technician job at the local county animal shelter. I start on Monday, which is good because all I had was a part time temporary job at toys r us, which pays minimum wage and will end on Jan 1. The only down side to the job is I will have to become euthanazia certified and because it is a county shelter and they have to take in any animal, the kill rate is higher than most shelters and everyone does everything at the shelter. I'll probably be asking questions to those of you that worked at shelters once I start- kind of the what did you do type questions.

Thanks. It feels good to finally be accepted somewhere fulltime. I swear, I was feeling pretty defeated lately with all of the rejection letters/emails coming back to back. Job hunting sucks right now and I am pretty deeply in debt that accumulated during the job search!!

Congratulations! I've only been in the shelter world for about 18 months, but I love it.

Thanks!! It is definately more my thing than working the toy store job. Not that I don't like kids, but I am definately more of an animal person.

My personal opinion is that I think someone as caring and loving towards animals, as yourself, will bring dignity and respect to a situation that unfortunately, is part of reality.
