What to do when you're having a crappy day

Anything that doesn't fit into the other three catagories

Postby mnp13 » October 18th, 2010, 10:38 pm

So... I had a horribly crappy morning dealing with unemployment and their terrible, awful, un-funny joke of an online training program. So, after wasting gas, 40 minutes (one way) driving, and three hours there, I was on my way home and drove past a small farm with cows and horses.

I decided that I wanted to stop and take pictures, because I like taking pictures and I hate everything else so far today. So I went up to the door, knocked, introduced myself and asked if I could take pictures of their animals.

I'm pretty sure they thought I was a lunatic, but they just said not to touch the fence because it's electric and it's on, and don't go in the pastures... so off I went. I was kinda bummed that I couldn't go in the pasture, because in the middle of the field were two rams beating the heck out of each other for the full 20 minutes or so I was at the second field, I know it would have made for some great shots!

All taken over/through electric fences with the 105. It was about 40 degrees and windy, so I didn't stay all that long.

These were the not-friendly horses in the the first field, I liked the blue eyes on some of them, but the bird ox in their mains and tails was awful!

In the other field this horse and his friend would not leave me alone. He wouldn't back up far enough to get a good picture of him, but wouldn't get close enough to not have the fence in the way, but followed me like a shadow...

Nice shots!
I just love when horses try to shove their noses in your lens. "What's thiiis? Gimme love instead!"
And the heifers... Now that's just me, but except for the massive amounts of poop, I wish they could be pets (well, some people have them as "pets" but also use them for milk or food), I find that they have character.

Great pictures... I absolutely love cows, they're so stubborn and full of personality. We have some younger cows down the road I ride down and they're always really curious and want to check us out when we go down there.

Another lovely day at the unemployment office. A mandatory meeting... to teach us how to use the internet to search for jobs. Thanks for that, I needed to drive 25 miles each way and spend two hours to learn to use websites that I'm capable of writing.

So, I stopped at the farm again. I brought a few prints from the last time I was there which they thought was cool. And when I was talking to the owners they told me that there were two baby sheep in the field (odd, because there were three) and when he was going inside I said "I'm going to go see if the babies are in view of the fence" and he said "just go in the field, but be careful, the fence is electric." SCORE!

The sheep wouldn't let me get anywhere near them, which was a bummer. And no fighting either, bummer number two. However, as always, it was very relaxing to be out shooting.

The helpful horses were there again, but were a filthy mess. Oddly enough once I was in the field I wasn't interesting enough to follow around; when I was on the other side they shadowed me though!
