RIP sweet Elvis

Postby juniper8204 » October 2nd, 2010, 11:22 am

My sweet rooster, Elvis, died this morning. Now, I don't expect most of you to understand why I'm mourning a chicken, but believe it or not, I loved this damned bird! LOL I didn't realize how much I was attached to him until I had to bury him.

He was originally my mother's rooster, and when she passed away in 2008, I took in all her chickens, to include Elvis. I had chickens of my own so I knew what I was getting myself into. Elvis was always the perfect gentleman, and never tried to go after anyone unless you were messing with his "girls" (my hens). HIs "girls" were his pride and joy, and he would send them running into the coop whenever a hawk was flying over and he would make sure that all of them went in at night. I watched him grow from a little fuzzball up until he was a handsome fellow.

I will miss my sweet boy. I already miss hearing him crow. Because of him, I will always have chickens in my life.

I'll see ya at the bridge my big beautiful boy.

I am sorry Elvis has passed on. I once mourned my hamster for 5 days, so I don't think being upset about a rooster is unusual. A pet is a pet!

Awww RIP Elvis! What a good looking boy!

I totally know where you're coming from. We've raised chickens since I was in high school and I have cried at every single death we've had.

Not to mention I stitched up and treated one of my chickens with baytril for 2 weeks after she got attacked by a dog. [still have her!] She stayed at the clinic in a kennel... it was awesome. Like Joyce said, a pet is a pet!
