Here is where we can discuss canine cancers and treatment options to create a support system for those dealing with the disease.

Okay... talked with dr. I will recheck her values next friday after not having her on fluids. I refuse to wait until she has lost more weight or feels like total crap, I don't think she deserves to go out like that. Thanks so much for the good thoughts everyone.

Thanks so much for the good thoughts and hugs. So far her appetite is really good but I haven't seen her drink very much water. I'm going to try adding water to her food just to help keep her hydrated.

Thanks for the good thoughts everyone and for the Sofie dances... in a way - I think they have worked.

Sofie's values went up to a BUN of 53 and a CREA of 4.3. I will be giving her sub q fluids a few times a week and will give this a few more weeks. Sofie has been feeling really, really well. She tries to jump on the bed at night with the other dogs, she's been very perky and she has a great appetite. I don't want to wait until it's too late but I want her to be feeling crummier than she is now before we do anything drastic. Since she is feeling good if the weather holds out we'll be going to a couple of parks for some hang out time while she's feeling great. I got some candid shots of her today, will share them at a later date. Thanks so much everyone, I think your thoughts helped us both!

And likewise, I'm glad to know the thoughts are mutual and hope you're doing alright. :hug3:

I wanted to add that in my last post on here I said:
I don't want to wait until it's too late but I want her to be feeling crummier than she is now before we do anything drastic.

Thinking about it more in depth, and to explain myself better - her quality of life seems to be really good right now. She's an old woman and spends most of her time sleeping but when she is active she's running around like a dork, trying to jump on my bed, begging for my food and my roommate's food, chowing down on her k/d. She's gained nearly 2lbs back which she had lost. It isn't that I want her to feel crappy, but I feel that her quality of life is good enough at this moment that she is not ready to go. She hasn't shown me that she doesn't want to live anymore. Like we always tell each other, they will let you know and I don't feel like she's ready to go yet.

I was really excited to see that she has gained nearly 2lbs which makes me very happy, she's starting to look like her old self again. I'm just glad that regardless of her kidney values she still seems to feel very well and I am very grateful for this time we're able to spend together. The weather has been crap this weekend, I'm hoping Monday can be a park day.

Thank you for asking :)

I ran her bloodwork today. Her CREA only jumped up to 4.4 and her BUN only jumped up to 67. Her BUN is a bit higher than last time but it's promising that her kidney function has stayed about the same. She seems to be really happy, she has a great appetite and has been sleeping up on the bed every night with me and the other two. We're going to continue taking things a day at a time and monitor bloodwork.
