Yes, and they weren't kidding. When she first said it, I looked at her to see if she was being sarcastic because I was going to make a smartass (but funny) remark back. But she wasn't. (It is true that in WWII that women donated their stockings to the war effort, so they didn't
have stockings to wear - but it was not ladylike to go out without stockings on, so your and your friends would draw lines on each others legs so that it would look like you
had stockings.)
So I just smiled, and explained that no, they were actual
nylon stockings, that had an actual
stitched seam up the back. So she asked about the toes as well... so, off came the shoes, because yes, the toes are black, and the bottoms - though the the ones I was wearing were the pointed "Cuban" heels not the traditional square heels. And the top bands are black as well. They were just fascinated that I had actual garters too... Though I must admit, that I
still can't put those stupid things on by myself. I can get my seams arrow straight no problem, but if I hook my own back garter up forget it, that seam just travels.
