This time of year always makes me sad, but it also gives me hope - I'll never forget how this country actually came together afterwards. People were kind to each other. Flags were flying. There was pride and determination in our country.

I hope that all those who have lost somebody have found peace...

That one always brings me to tears. And on today, Lee Greenwood's song "God Bless the USA" just totally does me in.

There was a man waving a flag on one of the overpasses of the highway today. I teared up a little.

What did I do all day? Basically, I cried.

Setauket FD Candlelight ceremony. My son is a volunteer there.

This is the 911 Memorial Park at the Firehouse. The two side beams are from Ground Zero.

Thank you for sharing. The memorial park is awesome. The beams just bring a chill of reality.

We had the opportunity a few years back to see the memorial in Oklahoma City at the bombing sight. Same awesome, yet eery feeling. Very emotional, very beautiful. If you ever have the chance, go.

I second this. That memorial is so beautiful in an eerie but respectful way.

Someday I'll make it down to NYC to see the memorial. I still remember exactly what I was doing when the first plane hit.
