First skunk encounter.

...yes, our dogs were sprayed. We have since mouthwashed, and bathed both dogs, and they are in our sun room drying so we can decide whether or not they are still stinky.

Good thoughts appreciated. we might need respirators.

OH NO!!!!!! I'm so sorry to hear that! We have a ton of skunks by me and I'm always worried one will get Petie. It's so hard to get that smell out. When my mom's dog got skunked, everytime her dog got wet for about the next year, the smell came back. :doh:

Eeek! Good thoughts for you!

I'd definitely get a de-skunking shampoo; water acts as a catalyst to reactivate the odor. Something about the chemical formula... One sprayed our yard last year, and I couldn't figure out why the yard smelled worse EVERY TIME IT RAINED.

Blech! I might barf just thinking about the smell.

Rudy made friends with the wrong end of a skunk and got the stink right between the eyes. We used a combo of dish soap, peroxide, and baking soda. It helped, but he was not my favorite dog for a few weeks.

I eventually found some baking soda so we used the same combo. Instead of soaking, we just scrubbed each dog twice and it helped a lot. They still have a little bit of a scent but it's a tolerable amount. Our house still stinks though. Not as bad as last night... but there's not much we can do about that except use air freshener and light lots of candles...

And, yes, there is something so cruel and twisted in a smell that gets WORSE every time you try to wash it away. :nono:

!!! Ino has brought home some horrible scents before, but luckily he never encountered a skunk!! There is something funny about things like this when they happen to someone else!! :doh:

oh No you guys we keep talking about how actually hilarious it is.
Poor Degan was rolling around in the grass trying to get the smell off him and had skunk oil all over his face and neck... then it was torture for him to get an outdoor bath... and now STILL he has a faint tinge of skunk ness. But for some reason it is quite hilarious.
Yesterday in class we had to make molds of classmates faces using plaster... and I had to keep apologizing to my partner for 'my hands smelling like skunk'... because they DID!!
